One of the problems with Shula was that he had to recruit right after (or during) the scholarship limit from the most recent sanctions. Auburn benefited heavily from recruits who would have loved to go to Bama under normal circumstances.

(I'm no Bama historian so please correct me if I'm wrong about Shula coaching under probation.)

I didn't know these guys were Bama posters and I'm clearly one. Just goes to show you "what a web we weave" , if this is true.

Do you think that this ongoing disappointment could have driven them to the dark side? Maybe in their subconscious Bama is now the standard they measure by.

I'm no doctor, but I have a key board and I would like to think this really isn't about being totally disappointed by CLM as much as wanting to be like their second favorite team.

You know a cry for help.

coker got canned at Miami with a NC and .800 win%. it hasnt been turned around there but he had clearly let the program go. lsu clearly has never been as high as Miami was early under coker and never as low (under clm) as cokers last two years.

cooper was run out of Ohio St with a .700 record and they have gone on to do pretty well.

but clm should not be fired as long as,
    he keeps recruiting,
he doesnt have too many embarrassing ole miss moments,
he is open to change when there are problems,
lsu stays in the top half of the SEC.

win% QB pt QB class sec nc
    2009 0.692 0.25 2
    2008 0.615 0 2
    2007 0.857 0.2 5 x x
    2006 0.846 1.5 3
    2005 0.846 0.5 2
    2004 0.75 0 5
    2003 0.929 0.7 4 x x
    2002 0.615 0.1 3
    2001 0.769 1 5 x
    2000 0.667 1 3

when the QB is young ("QB class" 3 or less) NO TITLES.

when the QB is older ("QB class" 4 or 5) = TITLES, with one exception--marcus randall.

the combination of young ("QB class") and inexperienced ("QB pt") gives poorest results.

if LSU doesnt improve in the next two years with a seasoned QB, top recruiting classes and top coordinators then get rid of CLM.

sorry, not the way bama fans are towards their own program, how they are to ours always touting saban's accomplishments and diminishing miles or crediting anything positive that miles did to saban.

i think it's ludicrous to suggest that saban is winning with shula's recruits regardless of how many of shula's recruits are excelling.

you, tusktimes, (as per my own observations) are a reasonable fan who's a credit to your fan base. and wish i came across more bama fans like you.

getting back to what this thread has become however.....

the same is true for miles and saban, i'm not sure why some people thought saban was infalliable at LSU. his really only good season was '03 (by spike's standards which even then we backed in in 03 if we backed in in 07). i mean the guy had to back in to the SEC cg in '01 (3 losses). and plus most of the players on that team (especially the major contributors) were not recruited by saban.

something that's not hardly talked about that i've mentioned before is that saban is just a better coach now than he was when he was at LSU or mich st(and he was pretty darn good then).

isn't drew brees a better QB with the saints than he was with SD or purdue?? (maybe miles is philip rivers!)
why can't a coach hit a prime like a player?

miles is twice as damned in the eyes of many b/c of the season saban is having (really over the last two seasons).

i wonder if saban went 7-5 this year would people want miles fired?

getting to someone else's question i would say frank solich.

solich won 9, 12, 10, 11, 7, and 9 games in six seasons respectively. what is that like 59 wins in 6 seasons??? (so just under ten). then was fired.

but he had a .500 season in there so don't know if that's fair, regardless of the numbers, solich and miles could have a beer together and have plenty to talk about.

Just don't lose games because of incompetence. Make changes, adjust in game, come out from halftime on fire. That is the one thing i liked about the Cap 1 bowl, was that for the first time in a long time, LSU came out in the 3rd quarter and attacked.

All we can really ask for as LSU fans is to be relevant in late November and December.

No doubt RP is SEC-caliber; his MVP in the SECCG vs. Tenn is a testament to that. Maybe he would've been more successful this year than JJ, but that's difficult to measure since the O-line underachieved all season. (Of course, WRs dropping passes and running incomplete routes didn't help JJ's cause, either, but that's another topic).

OK, you got me - LSU did beat a ranked GT team in the Peach Bowl last year.

You were more than relevant in early Nov. this year. I'm a firm believer if Scott doesn't come out of that Bama game were in trouble, big time. Not the Peterson catch, Scott.

Every short yardage situation was challenged by LSU and the pile moved. When you control the line you are relevant enough to win any game. They were physical up front and Jefferson didn't have the game on his arm.

I can't tell you why that wasn't LSU's identity the last two years with your horses but it wasn't. When you lost your 2 good backs what could anyone do, except without?

So here is the best analogy that I have for the people who claim Miles' success is only the result of Saban's program at LSU.

You have a date with a beautiful woman to go to dinner and outside of the restaurant you find a $100 dollar bill laying on the ground. You and your date have a wonderful time, run up a bill well over $100 and you use the $100 bill you found to help pay for the dinner. After dinner you go out to a swank bar for after dinner cocktails.

After a few more dates, this beautiful woman decides that she is not all that into you and decides to no longer date you. In trying to convince her to 'stay on the hook', she throws back in your face that the wonderful date you had was the result of the $100 bill you found outside of the restaurant and not the result of you spending your own money. She goes on to point out that the dates you had since that time just don't measure up to the evening of fine dining and cocktails because you did not take her to the swanky bar anymore.

Is that fair of her to hold against you the fact that you found $100 that evening instead of spending your own money?
