I've never really thought about it like that, but now that you mention it, that's got to be one of the hardest jobs on the entire show. Imagine how many hours of footage they shot and to pick just 10 for the entire season and for it to fit the story has to be difficult, to say the least. I know they have deleted scenes on the DVDs, but there's probably even more that wasn't included. I wish they weren't constrained by time and would just add all of it in. Or add more then 10 episodes per season. I totally agree. If the Umber's were to flip and pledge fealty to the Bolton's, it would have been to Roos, not Ramsey. But given how Bolton dishonored the Starks at the Red Wedding, it's doubtful this would have happened either. House Umber has always been portrayed was Noble, so to see them hand Rickon over to Ramsey doesn't fit. I agree, it makes no sense. Instead of going into battle with Dawn, they try to make Dayne a sith lord fighting with 2 lightsabers. I also don't know why they're trying to smear Ned's memory. I don't know. I thought that scene was kind of cool. I just wished he would have said more about why he did what he did. I know the Lord Commander does not owe his subordinates an explanation of his decisions, but given the magnitude of it and how it was and did infuriate some and divide the Watch, he should have told them all about the things he'd seen in the battle beyond the Wall and that they were going to need all hands on deck to defeat the White Walkers. As for where Snow is going, it obviously remains to be seen, but he's either going to go back to Winterfell to extract revenge on the Boltons or with the Wildlings to plan the battle with the Walkers, right?
I can't remember exactly but the amount of film used for GOT is record breaking. I think they have done a great job. The show is never going to be able to match up with the books and I like that. I will look forward to reading the grueling series once the shows are over. You know R.R. Martin is going to change up a lot of things from what he told the producers too. Just in his DNA. The producers know the current ending as planned for now so all the changes in progression/omissions are necessary to make the show what it is today. I also really liked the ending of the last episode as well.
See I figured he was going to proclaim that his watch has ended because he died. But y'all don't think it's a little odd for him to keep the job until he executes prisoners then quit? And all that shit about being elected to Lord Commander post in the previous seasons and now he just gives the job to Delores Edd? Don't get me wrong, I fully expected him to no longer be with the nights watch. In fact there were pictures of him in a battle dressed up like Ned Stark in Stark leather, and green. I just didn't think it would happen like that. I mean seriously we get Tyrion talking about playing scrabble with Grey Worm and Missandei for 10 minutes but 30 seconds on Jon leaving.
There are so many storylines now that it is becoming like a soap opera--each storyline only gets a few minutes each episode--and it drags on and on. It is way past time to start bringing the plot together and merging stories. The books are even worse, almost 40 characters with their own storyline chapters in the last book.
Yeah the books do branch off quite a bit. It seems like every new book George has a few more POV characters. But that's the beauty of it. The Winds of Winter and the last book can easily wrap this up. The show only has 27 hours left. How do you fit all of that into 27 hours.
Do you ever watch After the Thrones? It's sort of like Talking Dead after Walking Dead. They give pretty insight into what's going on, but they are paid by HBO, so they're never really critical of anything. Like the Umbers. They explain that, with the death of Greatjon, the old ways of doing things died with him. Hence Littlejon giving up Rickon to Ramsey. For me though, I don't like how a noble house like that just changes in the blink of an eye.
