Exactly. If you're going to start a rookie QB, fine. Expect to lose a lot of games unless you have both a great O-Line and a solid running game. Very little in common with LSU's situation. If anyone shares common ground, it's SC...
They'll say it, but it will have different connotations. Instead of it meaning Shula left the cupboard full of 5 stars that anyone could win with, they'll say they had mediocre talent that was coached up to win.
It's not exact. Les Miles has a bald spot. Matt Barkley is white. There are differences, but the commonality is that they're both big time programs that recruit well, but had bad seasons as of late. SC started a very young QB like LSU. Statistically he did better, but having seen both of them play I'm not so sure the disparity is that great outside of Barkley being a more polished passer than Jefferson. Both QBs were expecting help from their O-Line and (highly rated) RBs this year and neither of them got it. Both teams finished with disappointing records; SC was just more disappointing...
LSU has very similar talent as Bama and UF. Look where we are and where they are. Nuff said. Coaching makes a big difference. LSU isnt being coached up. Miles is lost at times and it reflects in how LSU plays, especially at the end of the year. It wouldnt be easy, but I think with better coaching LSU could get in there with UF and Bama, competing for SEC and national titles.
This is very true. Is JJ the best? No, but good enough. Was FLynn the best? No, but good enough. Is Mcelroy the best? No, but good enough. The key word in all of this is TEAM. LSU's problem the past 2 years is the fact that they have yet to play AS A TEAM. They lack the PLAYER leadership on the field. LSU is not in sync with LSU. It will happen at some point. I would say it is safe to say that LSU has won off talent alone this year. Coaching + talent + team work = :crystal:
I just posted on another thread that McElroy may have only started 12 games like Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee, but he was being prepared for 36...under the same offensive coordinator. There is no comparison at all between what happened here at LSU when we threw both of them to the wolves. Can anyone really imagine what either of them would have been like with that sort of preparation to play in the SEC? Can anyone imagine what either of them would have been like if they played behind an offensive line that was half as good as Bama's was in this game?
LSU does and has competed for SEC and national titles under Miles. To lose to Bama and LOL Miss by a total of 11 is just that, COMPETING. Aside from coaching mistakes, LSU has yet to play as a complete team all year. No upper leadership AT ALL. With or with out Miles, LSU will be in the hunt....
