Thanks Benny. You are a class act. I think only a fool would not have great respect for the talent and performance of Oregon State after Saturday. Good luck to Oregon State the rest of the way. I hope we don't meet y'all in a bowl game. I hope that kicker takes this in a correct perspective. My prayers are with him.
Tough loss for the Beavers. I really felt bad for the kicker too. We had about 8 Beaver fans stop by our tailgate and they stayed about 4 hours partying with us. They drank our beer but wouldn't try our boiled shrimp and grilled deer sausage. They were a great group and were lots of fun. I tried to get one of the guys to switch shirts with me, but he didn't want to be seen wearing "A Night With Nick" shirt!
All the Beaver fans I met were very nice and said they were having a blast. The Beavers came down here to win and almost came out of Death Valley with a win. I'm hoping that they don't dwell on the loss and that the Beavs look at all the positives from the game and build off of that and make some noise out in the PAC10.
The field usually drains pretty well, Benny, but you had to be here in BR to see it...it was an absolute deluge that came down for about 15 minutes. Nothing would have drained that amount of water coming down in that short of a time. That having been said, thanks for coming in here w/ such a classy post. I'll be pulling for you guys rip thru the PAC-10 and get to the Rose Bowl. After what I saw of your team last night, I have to like your chances.
Thank you all Thanks for the kind replies to my post. After sleeping on it, I feel upbeat; I only hope the Beaver players do. Though we lost, we had one hell of a showing. Didn't Rocky lose in the first Rocky movie, but he had a great underdog showing against Apollo Creed? Rocky didn't hang his head -- he just cried out "Yo Adrian!" and came back to fight again, and win. He was proud just to have done so well against the best, and that's the attitude I have about the game. I am concerned about your quarterback who appeared injured. Is he OK? I sure hope so. To be an 18 year old freshman and be injured significantly would be terrible. Hopefully it was just a cramp or a rolled ankle or something. Our local Corvallis Sunday paper has five or six articles on the game, one of which is solely devoted to the hospitality Beaver fans received at LSU. You guys are awesome. If we ever schedule a game in Corvallis, I'll be sure to bring a couple of extra cases of Widmer Hefeweizen or some other local Oregon microbrews, and some extra chicken and steaks, and I'll be looking for people wearing purple and gold to fill up with good food and beer to return the favor. You will be treated well should you ever come out West. Again, what a stark contrast between a reception held in the truest sense of sportsmanship, and the one we received in Fresno a couple years back. Makes me want to move to BR, LA. Well, you Apollo Creed clones, it was a great game. I for one will be pulling for you to win the SEC. Who knows, maybe we'll see each other in a bowl game here in a few months. I hope so, because that would mean that my Beavs were able to put the pieces back together. Yo, Adrian...I'm out! PS -- we do have a decent kicker who, according to Riley, was "kicking neck and neck" with Serna. His name is Dailey, and he kicked 5 for 5 last year in the Las Vegas Bowl when Steven Jackson scored five touchdowns. (And to think we could have had SJ last night if he wouldn't have gone to the NFL!) Maybe we'll switch to Dailey! I hope so. I wish we would have for that last kick! Oh well, water under the bridge.
Another class post, which is good because I have been reading some of your Portland sites and have become concerned. There is a lot of talk there that OSU "really won the game." That OSU "was clearly the better team." There is some hostility and denial going with the loss. But I guess all of that is understandable. I am just proud of my people for showing the hospitality that they did and look forward to an opportunity of seeing LSU at your venue. You are all class, my man! :thumb:
Yeah, so I am trying to take it in stride. It's just kind of hard to hear talk like "we really won." There's other things I am hearing as well: 1. The Refs were in LSU's pockets. 2. LSU shouldn't have won the NC last year. 3. The SEC is overrated. 4. More LSU players went down with cramping than OSU (ridiculous). 5. OSU really is the better team and we proved it last night. 6. Tiger Stadium is overrated, the place isn't much louder than Autzen or Husky Stadium. (Gee, really? What do you expect when you are LOSING the whole game.) The list goes on and on. We should be used to this by now. I saw a lot of class from OU fan in NOLA for the Sugar Bowl. I don't doubt that the OSU fans in NOLA/BR had a great time and we showed our true colors with them. It's just kind of hard to listen to the trash, but I have to deal with it and let it go. I have my ideas why this stuff goes on in Oregon in particular, but I'll digress. It pretty much goes on everywhere anyway. Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread as it is all class! :thumb:
