I wasn't aware that Texas had beat 2 top 10 teams, still, I'm dissapointed in how LSU played. I would have expected better shot selection and (especially) defense from this team.
We really didn't play badly...Texas just played lights out. Especially Augustin. He ahd like 25 tonight. They are going to be a good team.
there seemingly is the sanity coming back to the board here. Watched the game at home and couldn't make it to the game live, but in my gut I was almost more afraid of Texas than A&M. Just good talent on the UT team, hungry for revenge. Game could have gone either way. so here are some thoughts: 1. I'll take the split this week 1-1 vs #6 and what should be a top 20 team by the end of the year, UT. 2. Told you early, we're going to miss T Time. The reason UT lay ups are there is there's no athletic, above the rim guy to block shots when the LSU guards let their man beat them. Although, I'll say, Big Baby got up for a few nice blocks. The Tigers are going to have to work on their help d and ball screens. 3. I think GT perhaps remembers how many games he could have won for us last year and he flashbacked to DMitch of last year, thinking this was his game. Yes, it was a bad last shot from the standpoint that there was time left on the clock and he was about 4 feet behind the 3 point line. But, it feels to me kind of like when DMitch missed his 3 against UConn. Perhaps this is just a learning lesson from which the team will bounce back and later in the season GT will hit one to win it down the road. It was said before, but the guy was 50% from three land in the game. Probably should have gotten the ball into the lane with Big Baby and at least try to get a foul in that situation. I'd be curious what the staff told the kids to do on that play. 4. Augustin.... well he made it personal. I was afraid of that. Durant, looked overrated. Tas' played helluva d on durant. 5. Big Baby. This game probably showed that there will be some times when he has to just take control. He's a beast, and I think even with the loss, I'm happy that he came out strong in the second half and showed why I hope NBA teams pick up on this. Sometimes you've got to go for experience and heart over pure talent (Durant). So, it's a loss, but a motivating one for our next important road games. Winning on the road against Oregon State and Washington will be key games... road wins help the tourney resume a little more. It's a learning experience. Our outside guys try to win the game for us, and they'll learn when's the right time to play Darrell Mitchell. :geauxtige
Rolle's man set ball screens on him to free up Augustin and MR looked helpless each time. I don't know if I have anything positive to say about the kid at this time. Five star my a$$.
I lost a bunch of $ on this game, but that was completely worth it. I was going by our trend of getting blown out in ooc games in the past few years.
He really did look helpless on defense. We are going to need some better play out of Rolle to make a run this year..
i know you wont like this, but MR did many nice things. 9 boards (6 OR!). hit his two fts. i know he missed tons of shots and was lost on d mostly, but i noticed several things that werent mentioned by the WORTHLESS vitale and dont show up in stats. couple of times he rubbed a defender fighting through screens to get to shooter. he also did rotate over on d to help and forced a few turnovers. he'lll get tons of opportunity to improve this year and still have two years. id actually bet he'll be a solid contributor (10 & 10 given full pt) by the end of the year IF he stays healthy. something about being 6'10" and having two herniated discs seems scary.
im still most concerned about mason. maybe he hasnt played in enough games, but the box score doesnt show ANY contribution. teams will focus on glen and taz. mason should be hitting several j's game.
I agree the ball screening helped, but my two observations on DJ here are one, let's not take credit away from DJ for just playing his ass off and taking the game over in the second half. And two, and this one's more directed at Brady in recruiting--let's not forget that LSU's team speed is something to consider. While I like our team being a bunch of 6-5 to 6-9 guys, you've got to remember with GT, DMas' and TMitch as your "guard/wings" there's a matchup issue with them trying to guard a 5'11" quick guard (UT happens to have the kind of line up LSU had two years ago--they've got DJ and AJ Abrams, both of whom can score). And, DJ impressed me with his willingness to go to the hoop and finish. So, hence you have Tack playin' 30 minutes tonight. Watching the game, I have to say that Tack does need some work on D. I mentioned after the A&M game that Tack would have a larger role as the season went on, and I think he needs to learn that his role may have to be on the defensive end. The kid needs to lose about 5-10 more pounds and work on his ball defense. He's a quick guy end to end, but laterally, he wasn't stayin' with DJ. And, I'm going to be interested in Terry Martin's coming also. You add a guy who can bomb it, and with teams obviously seeing what a 2-3 can do against the Tigers, we'll need him. But, he's going to be another 6'5" guy who we'll need to see whether he can play d. Unless Tack or Voogd can step up their D, the Tigers will be vulnerable to the good, quick 6' guard who can penetrate. Of course we'd love to have a pure point who can penetrate with ease and hit the outside shot. We may just be waiting a few years (J'Covan Brown? Tommy Mason-Griffin).
is this true? if any reputable site said that, I dont think i can ever trust another ranking by them. not bashing the kid but cmon. he looks like a soft whitey out there.
