The House has approved a stimulus package and it now goes to the Senate. They are trying to get it to the President's desk by mid February. Looks like this will be fast moving.

The key to this whole thing is to stop employers laying off and hit bottom quickly.

An extended unemployment rate drop continueing is a double whammy to the economy.

Laid off people dont pay taxes and they recieve unemployment which is a drain.

A prolonged and expanding situation and it just keeps ripping at the economy.

Right now the worry is not inflation. We can deal with that later.

Incentice companies not to lay off and then put some programs together to create jobs.

A place to start is get these auto companies unions to cut their benefits and change these plants over to new technology to reduce dependence on oil.

These are drastic times and the govt. needs to step in and do what the auto companies refused to do and that is break these unions and get the american car affordable.

One thing that may have to happen is that we slap import fees on foreign imports to get our textile and steel industries working again.

Bring back alot of those jobs from india for customer service.

We cant worry about feeding India families we need those jobs back.

Slap taxes on those companies sending jobs to foreign companies while laying off jobs here.

the "buy american" part of the bill already has the steel industry in other countries crying foul.

So far there is not much stimulus to it. Most of the spending has little to do with stimulus, and what stimulus-friendly aspects there are will not take effect for two years. Very little to help the economy in the first two years. Major changes are needed.

I'd like someone to show or tell what stimulus is inside this bill?
Honestly, it seems like one pork project after another.
Bigger government, we are going to repair roads from NY to Cali but you have to wonder how many bridges to nowhere will be built in the process.
The government is going to grow by leaps and bounds.
I think it should be called the 850 billion dollar pork package!

What is the most amazing aspect to me is that we've had one stimulus plan after another for I believe a year or so.
I think its safe to say that those others have failed and now Obama is going to not only continue the policy but expand it even further and bigger if you believe this bill has any stimuli in it!
I do believe most people in this country must be insane to think we are going to have 2 trillion dollar deficits from here on out or that
any of these will actually work.
Its amazing to me that we always hear this is the beginning from the automotive industry to the economy across the board.

What is the definition of insanity?
It's doing the same thing over and over with the same result OR It's doing the same thing over and over with no results.

Out of curiosity, is there somewhere that I can read the Bill that's being passed around, or are we only get to find out what comes through the news? Just wondering if this is something that they have to post publicly, or if it's all behind closed doors until it's finalized.
