Was jimmy nichol the one who coined the phrase "it's getting better" when the beatles asked him how his playing was going and then Paul later used it for his song "Getting Better" on Peppers?
And you're right, Pete Best is definitely someone that can claim he is the "fifth beatle" since he is the only one other than Georga Paul Ringo and John that can actually say he was a beatle... You gotta feel for a guy like Pete Best. He was sacked, literally, on the verge of the Beatles breaking out. They did it right it not to long before they tried out for George Martin. I've read that Pete Best was an absolute wreckloose after the Beatles became huge....
Yes, Pete did not have the best luck. Brian actually gave him the news. How bad was Pete's luck ? In the 24 months that followed his departure from the group, the Beatles grossed $40 million (in 1960's dollars !). Pete became a banker earing eight pounds a week and married a girl named Kathy who worked at Woolworths ! Here is Pete as a Beatle
All is not bad for PEte...He received quite a nice paycheck from the Anthology with Love Me do, which I believe was credited to him since he was the drummer when they wrote it...
