If anyone can be considered the leader at this point, it's Colorado.

If Keiland establishes himself as the starter this year and Murphy comes on as well, it doesn't look good for Darrell to be able to play as a true freshman. I'd say we're a long-shot.

quite frankly I'd be surprised to see him at either school.

I don't think that either are in his top 5. I just found it interesting that SI reported that.

Not to sound all negative (because I really dislike it when you get people that are all "doom-n-gloom" for no damn reason), but I thought we were a long shot to land him for the simple fact that:

1.) He's all the way in California and LSU's track record with landing blue chip players from the west coast is pretty non-existant. I don't nec. view that as a bad thing because there is plenty of blue-chip talent in our own state and in the south.

2.) Depth. KW was a blue-chipper a year ago and Scott and Murphy were 4-star backs in their own right and none of those guys have done anything to show that their high rankings last year weren't deserved. Scott was our leading rusher at one point early in the season and up until the half-way point before his ankle injury slowed him down, was a pretty darn productive true freshman running back. When Scott went down, it opened the door for KW, who was behind Scott early because of the stupid Clearinghouse bit--as well as some nagging little injuries....but when he got his chance, he was impressive; KW runs with power and speed. Then, you have Murphy who's been showing all kinds of talent and moves this spring...and when you hear coaches, reporters, analysts rave about his abilities AND say that KW and Scott haven't dropped off from last season, you KNOW you've got talent. And they are Sophomores and a Freshman!

We're going to land 2 running backs like CLM is hoping for in this class. But I'd be pleasantly surprised if one of them is a blue chip from the west coast.

Look, Keiland Williams, Charles Scott, Richard Murphy and Jacob Hester aside, we STILL have a player like RJ Jackson--who came out of high school reminding coaches of Joseph Addai--pretty damn good company to be compaired to, IMO. Now Jackson has redshirted one year, and had an unfortunate knee injury the next so we really have never seen what he can do in a real game--or extensively in practice for that matter--but that doesn't mean he won't still be a contributor to the team before his time in Baton Rouge is up....

I'm projecting we sign two RB's. One is probably going to be a power back, 205 +lbs....(i.e. Charles Scott and AB) and the other will be a multi-purpose back (i.e. Murphy and Jackson) in the 185-195 lbs range.

Neither will be considered/counted on for immediate contributions, but 2 years in the program, redshirting one year, possibly playing a little here and there the 2nd, and they'll be ready to give you something by their RS-Soph or RS-Junior year.

Personally, I'd rather see us focus on Alonzo Landry from Carencro (5'11"-205 lbs. and a member of the Rivals 100 for 2008) and not let him slip away because we didn't devote enough attention to a player in our own backyard because we were too busy flying out west...

He's from Fla. though, and wants to play in the south. #2 on your list is more of a factor than #1 I believe. I think we sign 1 high quality RB this year because next year there are a handful of big studs in state - perhaps we take another 'versatile' athlete/rb as well.

I posted awhile back in the current needs thread an article from a LM tour stop. He stated we will be going for a quick, explosive RB. My guess is that we will only sign one 4* RB.

Does anyone else think our chances of getting him keep rising? I've just read stuff on other boards that lead me to believe we are in his top 3.

Just imagine, get the #1 RB this year then get the #1 RB in Michael Ford next year.

    Re: Darrell Scott

I feel good about us getting him. I think we can wow him at his offical visit here. The other teams Cal and UCLA have better shots at landing him, than UF, or USC. So if he likes our Coaches and there philosophy, we are in that top 3.

I sure hope so too. He has like 12 schools listed at "Medium interest", seems like he should start narrowing down his choices soon. He's not planning on announcing till National signing day though- we'll have to wait.
