I recently began watching highlight videos from some of our bigger games this season, and in doing so, I noticed a huge trend on defense. We got a lot of 3rd and longs, and gave up huge chunks on the pass, usually over the middle, while playing zone. This trend only stopped when we started blitzing more frequently towards the end of the season. Reminded me a lot of 3rd & Chavis. Certainly makes me more confident that the change to Pelini will be beneficial. Highlight videos: Texas - Florida - Bama - Anyone else see this trend?
I noticed it during the season but at the end beginning with the aTm game the D was light years better. Probably because of the return of injured players, especially Chaisson and Delpit.
I think it's all garbage. Even the knock on Chavis back then. You're not gonna stop every 3rd down conversion.
Having a 21st century offense that scores at will cures a lot of that. The zone defense works right up until your opponent is out of time and options. No risk involved if you are desperate and about to lose anyway. We just couldn't score efficiently enough to keep momentum when playing equal/better talent in the miles/minger offense.
I flew a toonce flag almost every game day this year. I accidentally did this the first few games, I went with my LSU flag on the Florida game once I realized and then went back to toonce after. It is just good luck from that point and I didn't change anything. Next year I am going with my new Texas LSU colored flag on game days.
