I'd trade Burch for Jarrett if you gave me that option. WR is the one spot we could have afforded a huge loss in the recruiting wars.
And that's the extreme risk you take recruiting from far outside your regional area. Comes with the territory. Mothers are always going to be emotional with their sons leaving home, and especially far away from home.
True, but usually they don't give you every indication that they are coming for 8 months before pulling the rug out. I believe O went in-home with him last week. Maybe that gives us a better chance at keeping Burton.
Now holding on to Jermaine Burton became that much more important. Lose both and that should be a blow.
The three most important recruits for this class were Gilbert, Rick's and Webb as far as expected LSU commitments. All three are in and that spells great success for the class already.
Maybe his mom thought he isn't mature enough to be that far away from home by himself... Needs to realize college is where he will become a man... That being said, he just traded playing in front of a national TV audience against the best competition every week to a team that was 3-9 and is on a 7 game losing streak...
FWIW, Louisiana is absolutely loaded with WRs for the foreseeable future. Probably not on the level of Jarrett or Burton but still legit.
WR will never be an issue in recruiting. Louisiana always seems to turn out elite kids. Even with our prehistoric Les Miles offense we still kept bringing them in year after year.
Obviously Maryland is a worse team than LSU by a lot, but he's effectively a Baton Rouge kid for them. It's not too surprising that he decided to go to the school that's 20 minutes away from his parents. Also for the record this actually isn't THAT surprising. I don't think anyone expected him to flip today, but he has been a late signing day recruit for a while now. Obviously still sucks, but if there's a position for this to happen to, it's WR. Plus we've locked down that monster Gilbert.
