How many programs were trying to hire E? There may be some juice left in the box, but it definitely doesn’t scream “hiring the best”. We’re watching the football version of The Expendables.
If E is the best we could do, I have no problem. But if O went with him on the cheap, or for convenience, or friendship, then that’s a problem. It would be reassuring (or not) to learn of O’s long or short list.
Good points. Unfortunately, I think that’s where a bean counter like Alleva comes in and handcuffs O’s options from the outset. I just really dislike Alleva. Hated when we hired him, and his tenure has gone on for far too long- potentially, long enough to put LSUs football program back a decade.

that and I'd actually heard of Gus Malzahn prior to him getting a college gig even though he was coaching in freaking Arkansas. i'd never heard of this LeCompte cat, and he was only an hour and a half away and has played against my Alma Mater.
I had heard of Jerry Faust even though he was coaching high school in Cincinnati. How did that Notre Dame gig turn out?
