BREAKING: Shelvin commits to LSU Shea Dixon - 56 minutes ago The good news keeps rolling in for LSU recruiting, this time for the 2017 class. LSU has landed a commitment from Lafayette defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 3 prospect in the state of Louisiana and the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country. "I have committed to LSU," Shelvin said. "I talked to Coach Orgeron and then Coach Miles and then Coach Steele. They wanted me to be a Tiger." Shelvin landed his offer on Wednesday morning, and he committed on the spot. "Shout out to Coach Miles, Coach Orgeron, & Coach Steele for treating my son perfectly," said Tyler's father, Germole Shelvin. "Overwhelmed by the whole process, and look out for 2017!" Shelvin is LSU's second commitment for the 2017 class, joining Baton Rouge five-star prospect Dylan Moses, who remains ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the country, regardless of position. Shelvin is ranked as the country's No. 29 overall prospect. With the addition, LSU now has the No. 1 class in the SEC and the No. 3 class in the country for 2017.
Great pickup and if he maintains his #29 ranking overall for 2017, he will remain a 5*. In general, about 30 to 35 players get 5* status so using 24/7 composite rankings for players in 2016 class for example, 32 players have 5* status. Congrats to LSU staff for getting what appears to be the #3 LA player for 2017...and a LOS player in a 6-3 300 DT. Of course, LSU already has the #1 player in LA and the country for that matter committed for 2017 in Dylan Moses who seems to be projecting as a LBer in college.
Great notes Eye. More on Coach O doing his job.. Orgeron turns up DL recruiting Shea Dixon - Mar 9, 8:19 AM The LSU staff signed just one defensive lineman out of Louisiana this past February, reeling in Karr High senior Isaiah Washington as a strongside defensive end prospect. The year prior, there was just one Louisiana defensive lineman in LSU's very-talented 2014 signing class: Plaquemine strongside defensive endDavon Godchaux, who moved to defensive tackle and started double-digit games as a true freshman this past fall. With just two Louisiana defensive line signees in two seasons, the Tigers are looking to change that under new defensive line coach Ed Orgeron, and the press is on for the dominos to start falling. Headed into spring practices in Baton Rouge, five Louisiana defensive linemen have already been offered by LSU - all defensive tackles. The top targets: Neville's Rashard Lawrence, St. Thomas Aquinas' Edwin Alexander, McDonogh 35's Stephon Taylor, Destrehan's Glen Logan and Rummel's Briston Guidry. The good news: LSU currently leads the way on all five of their 247Sports Crystal Balls, and the Tigers hold every single prediction made for Lawrence, Alexander and Logan - the three highest-rated prospects of the bunch. For opening day of spring ball this past weekend, the LSU staff welcomed in Lawrence and his parents for an "About You" visit weekend, which gave the Tigers a chance to spend an extended amount of one-on-one time with the entire family. Now, Alexander, Taylor, Logan and Guidry are all set to experience the same "About You" visit over the next couple months. With interest also coming in from Top 100 prospects like Ed Oliver andKendell Jones in Texas, Orgeron and the Tigers should have no trouble scoring big on the defensive line in 2016, and as the press begins for defensive ends, the class will most likely shape into one of the nation's best. Right now, the top-ranked defensive ends in Louisiana who could be on the brink of landing an offer this offseason includes Livonia's Willie Baker, Madison Prep's Malcolm Roach, Miller-McCoy's Andre Anthony and Bastrop's Travez Moore. Of course, Orgeron is also trying to get ahead of the game for the 2017 class, and this past weekend he brought in Louisiana's top-ranked defensive lineman in Northside Tyler Shevlin. At 6-foot-2 and 310-pounds, the Lafayette standout is already ranked as the No. 3 prospect in Louisiana, the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country and a national Top 30 prospect. The other top-ranked defensive lineman in Louisiana for 2017: Southern Lab's Chris Allen, a 6-foot-4 and 210-pound defensive end. Allen, who picked up an offer from the staff at Boys from the Boot last month, is already a Top 100 prospect and the No. 3 weakside defensive end in the country. Last week, former LSU quarterback Marcus Randall was named the new head coach at Southern Lab, meaning the Tigers will have one more familiar face at the school as they recruit Allen over the next couple years. The lone question left: who becomes Orgeron's first defensive line commitment now that he has a full year ahead of him on the recruiting trail with the Tigers?

With the abundance of in state DL talent in the next couple of classes Yaw Yaw is going to load the boat! Looking forward to being DLU again.
LSU has had a defensive lineman drafted 11 years in a row. Hopefully that insane streak continues this year. Hunter makes it a slam dunk, imo. We're known as DBU, but really it's the DL that put LSU on the national map defensively, imo.
It's been debated before, but LSU hasn't been the same at DL lately. Good players yes, but not that nasty dominating front line LSU was known for. IMO it's the reason Brick is gone.
I agree with you.. just proves how good we are that even with "subpar" by LSU standards DL play we're still throwing out guys the NFL routinely wants. Kind of like the OL.. Stud did a poor job, but LSU still put guys in the NFL. Like Dad pointed out, Grimes and Bebe are both huge upgrades and we're gonna see both lines show it.
