compared to the other major conference teams in the NCAAT (along with the other teams ranked in the Top 20: Rice, UCF, and Cal State Fullerton)...

LSU's fielding is the best, our hitting is above average and our pitching is a little bit below average

also, note that our stud closer, Goody, has done poorly in his last 4 appearances as closer.... giving up a .481 opposing batting average and a whooping 12.60 ERA over that time (a total of 5.0 innings vs Vanderbilt, Nicholls State, South Carolina, and Miss State)

LSU has the highest all-time NCAA Tournament winning percentage (123-47, .724)

"This is a fun time for us," Mainieri said. "I know what the expectations are here at LSU, and they're through the roof. Omaha or bust. When you get to the postseason, I think it's fun. It's a tremendous reward for these kids. I don't think that people truly understand the time commitment and sacrifices that these kids make on a daily basis."

"I told them (the team) that all these people are going to be filling these stands tomorrow to support you, not to put pressure on you. You don't have to try any harder now than you have all year. Just go out and have fun, relax, play the game and let it rip....let's go out there, just let it rip, have fun and enjoy this experience."

Mason Katz: "We're going to just let it rip. We aren't going to try and do something different than we have all year. In big games, we have gone out there and let it rip. That's just our mentality. We play loose and have fun, but we are still aggressive. We are going to stick with that. We are going to go out there tomorrow, swing big and hopefully come out on top."

    LSU plays ULM tonight

Mainieri on ULM: "I have the greatest level of respect you could imagine for ULM," Mainieri said. "First of all their coach, Jeff Schexnaider is a great coach. The Sun Belt Conference year in and year out is such a tough league, and when you're conference champions, that's something to be proud of. We have a job to do tomorrow night, and that is to go out there and play a great baseball game. Their players play the game the right way. I'm very impressed with their style of play and how much passion their kids play with."

Raph Rhymes (who is from Monroe) on ULM: "They are going to come in here hungry. They are going to come in here and play hard. It's definitely going to be a battle. I know a bunch of guys on their team, and I know they're excited. Alex Box Stadium is going to be packed. It should be a good game."

Katz on ULM: "I know a few guys on the team and I have talked to them. They are all super excited to come down here. They are going to come out here swinging and they aren't going to be scared. We are going to go out there and play 100 percent."

Only four current Tigers (Austin Nola, Hanover, Dozar, Didier) have experienced as players what will transpire when LSU takes on Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. in the regional nightcap.

"I haven't been able to play in a postseason game here, and that's what I'm really excited about," LSU junior outfielder Mason Katz said. "The only ones who have are the senior class this year.
