I know we have garnered our share of quality recruits at safety, Chad Jones, Loston, etc., but I only get excited by extreme talent at this position. The reason is it seems to be a catch-all type position. We slide athletes, C.B.'s who can't cover well enough, some undersized hybrid LB types, two way R.B.'s, W.R.'s, etc., to safety. In addition, football smarts, ball hawking ability, and the mental capacity to eliminate blown coverages plays a major role so even studs aren't always as good as expected. For example, Jack Hunt did a decent enough job, but certainly wasn't physically imposing or speedy. For a lot of reasons I think safety is a position we should be careful about offering early.
Which I dont understand because they should have offered first, if I was him I would be pissed at that offer at this point.
I agree and he is not the only prospect scratching their head wondering why it took so long and others are still waiting. Kind of like Arkansas last year who was late to the party on several high priorities like Dyer. They offered Dyer early but he was wondering why all of the other top talents (his buddies) did not receive contact or offers yet. Which lead to a bad 1st impression and we know where he ended up.
