I'm under the impression that it will be BG coaching up the QBs from here on out.

Won't be just Gonzales. Crowton too along with Ensminger giving some pointers as well.

They do but he just really likes UF and ND.

Probably another reason to go after Rivers because we can't afford to take just Ely and him switch his commit last minute if either of those two come calling.

Rivers says LSU visit wowed him - Decaturdaily.com

ATHENS — Athens High’s Stephen Rivers plays in the same prep football program that produced his brother, NFL star Philip Rivers.
He wears his brother’s jersey number (17), plays the same position (quarterback) and works under two coaches who had a tremendous influence on Philip — his father, Steve Rivers, a former Athens head coach who is now the Golden Eagles’ quarterbacks coach, and Allen Creasy, who became Athens’ head coach in 2000.
But for college, Stephen will follow his own path. While Steve Rivers played at Mississippi State and Philip Rivers was a star at North Carolina State, Stephen Rivers said Friday that he will sign with Les Miles’ Bengal Tigers.

“I went on a visit there a couple of weeks ago and liked it,” Rivers said during a break in Athens’ practice Friday. “The coaches, the facilities, everything was great.”
Rivers said he didn’t strongly consider LSU until a couple of weeks ago when he went to the school’s elite football camp. The Tigers made an offer Wednesday, and Rivers confirmed Friday that he will sign with the program. LSU has gone 51-15 in the past five years under Miles and won a national championship in 2007.
“He felt at home at LSU,” said Steve Rivers, his father.
Rivers had received offers from plenty of other major programs, including Arizona State, Florida State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Stanford, Tennessee and UCLA. He also got an offer from North Carolina State. He visited the Raleigh campus in June.
“I looked at North Carolina State,” Rivers said. “LSU was the best school for me.”
Rivers said he wasn’t trying to avoid his brother’s legacy at his old college program.
“If I had gone to N.C. State, I’m sure I would’ve heard a lot about Philip,” Rivers said. “But that wasn’t why I picked LSU.”
He said his brother is happy for him to be attending LSU. There’s now another connection between the Rivers brothers’ careers, although it’s a small one. Cam Cameron, a former offensive coordinator for the Chargers during 2002-06, was an assistant coach at Michigan and served on the same staff as LSU’s Miles for seven years. Cameron and Miles are good friends.
LSU became a strong possibility for Rivers as he looked for programs that needed a quarterback and discovered the Tigers are short on players at the position. LSU has only three quarterbacks on scholarship, including juniors Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee and incoming freshman Zach Lee, who is considering a baseball offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Rivers also seriously considered Tennessee before Lane Kiffin left to coach Southern California after last season.
“When that happened, I wasn’t sure,” Rivers said.
Before heading to LSU, Rivers has his senior season at Athens ahead of him. In his first season as the Golden Eagles’ starting quarterback last season, Rivers helped Athens to an 8-4 record and the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Rivers threw for 2,200 yards and 23 touchdowns.
“Stephen has a great future ahead of him,” Creasy said.

I keep reading this but is it even true? Has Gonzo/Esminger been getting involved with the QBs during practice? Huge slap in the face for Crowton if true.

I'm with you Tigertap and like bhelm said they will all help JJ. But with it comes to Gonzo I would be surprised if we didnt see some of those formations Florida use to run when they had Percy Harvin.

Not only that but IF ZL stays and SR is here an expericenced Zach could also mentor mr Stephen. Very much like Matt F did with Ryan P. during the SEC champ game.

Re: 2011 QB Stephen Rivers Commits

Reading the posts here and lurking at Tigerdroppings, I get the feel that most people would rather have Ely...probably because he's higher rated, and also because scouting reports have noted an unorthodox release that Rivers has.

I think most people take this information as Gospel, adopt it as the whole truth, and run with it. They look at highlight films and say the same catchy things that I don't think mean too much like "pocket presence" or "hitch in the throwing motion", "vision",etc.

Personally, I'm real excited about Rivers because the guy has an older brother who's a premier NFL quarterback, and who's dad was an SEC caliber quarterback. I really believe that Rivers has what it takes to be a GREAT quarterback...between the ears. Mentally he has a lot of football intelligence and has the ability to make reads and quick decisions. And I base this on the fact that both his dad and his older brother were successful...that kind of stuff runs in families.

I really believe that Rivers is more of a sure bet than Zack Lee...who doesn't have the family "pedigree" that King Emeritus referred to. Don't get me wrong, pedigree doesn't mean guarantee...but it's a strong indicator. In the brains department, I'm real excited about both Zack Lee and Stephen Rivers. They're both going to ensure that LSU will have tremendous thinking quarterbacking in the future. :thumb:.

Well, pedigree only goes so far. But I generally agree. I still want Ely (because I'd like to see two QBs in this class), but I really like Rivers' upside, as they say. And I REALLY like that he's a field general kind of QB.

Hell - he could have a great senior season and rise to a mid to high 4 star in both services before this is all said and done. Kids actually can improve between their junior and senior year - that's not really a secret. He may be the steal of the class! We'll see.

I'd rather have both and yes, it's a very real option. It wouldn't be the first time that two QBs who are well-thought of committed to the same school in the same year. LSU is a pretty good place for a QB to commit to right now as well. There are few QBs on the roster, lost of highly rated OLinemen coming in the same class and oh yeah, arguably the best collection of skill players in the SEC.
