Re: Updated Rivals team ratings Family. I think he has a brother on the team. Not sure where his Dad played, but there are family connections there.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings I could really care less about the rankings....to be honest the class we have now I am happy with especially being a "down year" in La.....not counting La kids (Trovon Reed) the only other guy we have to add is Lache and beyond that I am fine with what we have so far.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings agreed. im actually more excited about this class (under these circumstances) than last year's. solid all around. it would be nice to add 1 or 2 legit 5*s but i wont be picky.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings Bruce Matthews and his brother Clay went to USCw. But yeah Jake's brother is the starting center for TAMU.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings It is always nice to have a supposedly independent source verify that you have done well. I think it is fun and gives me something to do, especially during the offseason. The correlation between winning championships and being a fixture in the Rivals top 10 and/or having a high avg. star ratio is undeniable. It is also interesting to see who has underperformed after having good recruiting classes. If they underperform on the field long enough their recruiting suffers and the perennial powerhouse goes downhill. The biggest underperformers of late IMO have been Miami, Fla State and Michigan. I think the biggest factor has been competition, followed closely by coaching. Obviously, Fla State can't seem to beat Florida. I think Miami has been poorly coached. Michigan can't beat Ohio State and has fallen off a cliff. Va Tech gets my vote for a consistent perennial over achiever.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings He has competing interests as was mentioned. TAM offers proximity to home and his brother plays there. Playing for USC and following other family members is a big draw too. His initial intention was to commit to TAM after his visit to USC unless his visit was THAT good. Well he hasn't pulled the trigger yet. He spent time with his position coach but not with Coach Norton who has Texas as his assigned area. Many of the coaches were on vacation the week of Matthew's visit. But if he was interested enough to delay a commitment that's a good thing. I still think TAM has the edge and he'll choose staying close to home but it would be great to have another Matthews come out West.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings Well if he has Aggie family I guess that is why he won't go to the enemy Longhorns. USC is a long way away, but he won't even sniff a conference championship in Aggieland. He will start early though, listen to yells, light bonfires, hear the song refrain "go tell Aunt Rhody the old grey goose is dead," until he can't stand it.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings LSU now projected to be just about 2100 points with the addition of Ware and the impending 4 star rating of Hardrick and a much improved 3.67 average star rating. That would put LSU back in 2nd place just 30 or so points behind Texas.
Re: Updated Rivals team ratings What is more important is getting guys that believe in what you are doing and support the school. Jacob Hester comes to mind, what was he like 2 star. Same could be said of Russell Shepard, sure he is a 5 star, he might end up being a bust but I would rather see someone like that being a bust and trying the best they can than watching some Michael Jackson attention hog. You see Russell committing early, getting in school, committing to the team in any way possible... LSU needs that regardless if the player is a one star or a five star. It seems like Miles is not necessarily going for all 5 stars, 5 stars don't make a team... players working together make a team. I am glad LSU is now focusing on players that want to come in a produce.
