Wow, another top 10 recruiting class is good news for most schools & I think for LSU as well but I do have a question.. How will that do for us in relation to the other big dogs in the SEC. I think that is the real question as we could end up in the top ten nationally & still be 4th to 6th in our own conference. That would not be so good would it?? Its still early but we will have to get some big names down the stretch to stay near the top in the SEC.:geaux:

Personally, I think anything in the Top 10 is pretty close to being even - say within a .25 star average. Basically, after that, you're talking coaching and player work ethic. And we've seen, a few times recently, how some 5-stars just don't pan out, and some 2-stars just blow up! If LSU were a averaging outside the Top 10, then I'd be worried about our recruiting.

I have heard the argument before on the 5 star versus the 2/3 star. I know it can happen but I would think that on the average the 5 stars turn out to be better than the 2/3 stars(?). Anyway not talking down on LSU's recruiting at all, just wondering how we will finish up recruiting wise against the rest of the conference. I know this comes down to the coaches making those decisions & Most comments usually lean toward "I trust the coach on those decisions" being pro LSU. What did we have last year, four or five - 5* recruits? When a year is mentioned as being a slim or thin year does that mean that there are less 5* players nation wide or does that mean that there are none that we have a chance to get? Are there any 5's out there that we have a shot at this year(LS the running back)? I see where both Alabama & Florida both have only one 5* committed so far.

On average, I'd rather have a 5* than a 2; there are not that many Hester's out there.

I don't think there is that much difference between a 4* and a 5*. Charles Scott was a 4, Keiland Williams a 5 because of his speed. Scott has become the better "every down" back (but I still hope for more Keiland highlight runs this season).

I agree with the comment, if you are in the top 10 in classes, you have a shot. Bama was not in the top 10 recruiting classes a few years back, now they are, and they have a shot every year. Obviously the current hot spot is the Gators, who are doing real well every season. Les has done quite well every year also, LSU has nothing to hang its head about. After dominating the SEC for a few years, the competition has stepped up, and we'll have some "doneybrooks" of our own (remember that Shreveport lady and her daughter had a "doneybrook"! :D).

That's not how it's worked at LSU so far. Using Rivals since they started in 2002, LSU's last 1st round pick was a 3 Star - Tyson Jackson. Our next 2 likely 1st round picks, Brandon Lafell & Ciron Black were also ranked 3 Stars.

On the other hand, it's hard to deny that 5 Stars Patrick Peterson & Chad Jones look to be a high round picks in the future.

Xavier Carter - Off the Team
Ryan Perrilloux - Off the Team

5 Star players who entered the draft:

    Justin Vicent - Not drafted
    Claude Wroten- 3rd Round
    Early Doucet - 3rd Round

    5 Stars of Future Drafts:

    Keiland Williams
    Al Woods
    Chad Jones
    Terrence Toliver
    Patrick Peterson
    Russell Sheppard
    Craig Loston
    Chris Davenport
    Rueban Randle

That's probably one of the things wrong at Notre Dame and USC...too many 5 stars and not enough coaching to develop them...at least at ND.

Based on what you said, it looks like consistent solid classes are a better indicator of success than star rankings. I can't begin to comment on how we judge football prospects, but it sure looks like Miles Knows what he's doing by waiting to offer most prospects until he and his staff personally see and meet these guys at camp first.

It's got to hurt someone's work ethic and drive when you got butt kissers like the ones at Tennessee and elsewhere right now telling you how great you are and how much you're needed and how much they love you, etc. After all that, you get personal handlers and your own websites etc. Kind of hard to keep your head in the game after that...especially when your head's looking at the sky seeing Chad Jones and Craig Loston looking down and you realize you have Riddell tattoo'd on your chest backwards !!

If Coach Miles likes to see the linemen (both offensive and defensive) in person at camps before offering them, Why are so few listed as coming to this camp? Has he or his staff seen enough of them last year when they were juniors? If he plans to wait to see the non campers during the coming season, does that put us at a disadvantage?

(Maybe we already offered them when they were 12 or 13 yrs old like Kiffen does :hihi:.)

He likes to see OL and in-state prospects in person before offering.

The list will include many more before the camp starts. Some will not make it and he will have to go by what he saw at the June camp and what they gather from their senior years.
