Not unexpected but still a loss. Unless LSU can convince Calvin Smith to commit to play in Baton Rouge it is unlikely that the Tigers will sign a defensive tackle this year.

We will sign Blackmon and watch out for Brandon Jackson.

Jackson is looking at Arkansas, Alabama and Texas A&M, to which he has committed. I don't think he is interested in LSU.

I should have added, "unless Miles can convert one or two of his defensive ends into a tackle." Blackmon is listed as a DE by Rivals and a DT by ESPN so that should work out fine.

This is a new development I have been talking about for about 2 weeks and Jackson is coming in for an official visit this weekend. Don't be surprised if he commits. He was offered by LSU last week when the staff learned of the Marsh news.

Blackmon was recruited as a DT and that is where he had a great showing at the LSU July Camp and was offered. He played DE and DT in HS but his suited as a DT in college.

How do you figure? Go back and look at both the '03 and '07 national championship teams:

    2003 team
    WR-Devery Henderson- LA,Michael Clayton-LA, WR-Skyler Green-LA
    OL-Andrew Whitworth-LA, OL-Rodney Reed-LA, Nate Livings-LA, Stephen Peterman-Gulfport, Ben Wilkerson-Port Arthur
    TE-David Jones-Maryland
    QB-Matt Mauck-Indiana
    RB-Justin Vincent-LA

    DL-Marcus Spears-LA, Marquise Hill-LA, DL-Chad Lavalais-LA, Kyle Williams-LA
    LB-Cameron Vaughn-LA,
    Lionel Turner-?,LB-Eric Alexander-Tyler TX
    DB-Corey Webster-LA, Travis Daniels-FLA, DB-Jack Hunt-LA, Laron Landry-LA
    2007
    WR-Early Doucet-LA,WR-Demetrius Byrd-Miami
    OL-Ciron Black-Tyler, TX,Carnell Stewart-LA,Herman Johnson-LA,Lyle Hitt-LA, OL-Brett Helms-Arkansas
    TE-Richard Dickson-Miss
    QB-Matt Flynn-Tyler, TX
    RB-Jacob Hester-LA
    RB-Shawn Jordan-?
    DL-Tyson Jackson-LA, Kirston Pittman-LA, Glenn Dorsey-LA, Marlon Favorite-LA
    LB-Ali Highsmith-Miami, Luke Sanders-LA, Darry Beckwith-LA
    DB-Chevis Jackson-Mobile, Jonathan Zenon-LA, Craig Steltz-LA, Curtis Taylor-LA

There you go, 15 starters from the '03 team and 14 from the '07 team were from Louisiana. And of 15 out of staters (combined), 6 were from either the Houston area or south Mississippi, which are traditional recruiting hotspots for LSU. We can win national championships with very little help from outside our base, as this proves.

I'll never forget the hit he put on Jason White near the end of the '03 Nat'l Championship game.

:geaux: Losing Marsh hurts but seems it was destined to happen. Mom got her way, unfortunately. But getting Jackson would definitely make up for the loss of Marsh. Come on down to Tigertown Brandon! You'll look great in Purple & Gold! :thumb: :LSU231:
