One thing that could work in our favor is the commit of Reggie Wilson yesterday to Texas. That gives him one less option and if we make a favorable impression this weekend we could be pitted against OU for his services. However, looks like he has a few others in front of us before the visit.
I'm not sure we're even REALLY being considered at this point; maybe his visit will open him up to LSU but I think he might be Oklahoma's to lose at this point.
Would be nice to grab him, or some other 5-star or high 4-star DLs. But IMO LSU had an awesome haul on DL last year, including Logan who I have a sneaking suspicion is going to blow up at LSU. So if we have a moderate year recruiting for the DL in 2010, I'm thinking we'll be OK.
Just as an FYI.......Mike Farrell from Rivals had said that he believed UT was the leader and that USC had cooled on him, therefore had fallen off the Top 5. Jeffcoat's dad Jim who played for the Cowboys called Farrell directly and on the 19th, Farrell said on the radio that Jim told him USC was still very much in it, there was no leader at this point, and they hoped to have a Top 5 by beginning of the season.
I don't think UT is the leader. OU/USC battle. This kid and his dad keep it very close to the vest so you won't hear much coming from them on who is on the top of his list.
Mike Farrell doesn't agree. It's not like he hasn't been wrong before.......like on this story. Not so close that dad didn't feel it necessary to call Mike Farrell after an erroneous report. That's gotta' wake you up some. It does sound like they are open for more than USC/OU though. I expect at least one (read Tigers) SEC team to be in play.
I said close to the vest, not sealed. Like usual that will equate to misinformation, contradiction, and rumors throughout the process. I am going to have to disagree with Mike based on some info out of Texas. As of now I think it is OU, USC, and Texas in that order. But we know much can change between now and NSD. I hear he is leaning to staying close to home but he will be a busy man. He already plans a West coast visit to all the top Pac10 teams. USC would be the only school out West to change his mind on staying close to home. I also see LSU having a chance based on the fact that he has already been on campus and he is going to narrow down schools for 2nd visits later in the process.
Jeffcoat has been coached very well however i wish he were about 60 pounds heavier he would be a great DT. The fact that he has a very good pad level and great hands his initial punch is what you look for from good D-linemen who can stand his opposition up immediately.I also like the way he defends his knees from chop blocks however i dont like him as a speed rusher. I also would like to see how he has progressed in the weight room he goes backwards alot mostly because of doubling, but elite D-Linemen see doubling all the time u have to learn to beat it i saw josh downs alot and he was doubled almost every down and he never went backwards this much and he was not a huge lineman...Let's see how he progresses this year......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StBts_HNIvI
I agree Trojan he is overrated in my opinion definately should not be the number six overall prospect on rivals....
