Why would the fact that LSU coaches don't know where they want to play this guy, factor into whether or not we accepted his commitment?

I would have to think it's more to do than that. That's trivializing the process a bit much.

Obviously LSU isn't quite sold on his talent level, otherwise they would have pulled the trigger. Plain and simple.

If McFarland would have pulled the trigger, you better be damned sure he would be a committed Tiger right now as we speak.

Probably because they want to make sure they don't take too many at a certain position.

Hes one of the guys in-state that I think we have to take, though. Hes just too good a player to pass up.

I guess the coaches don't see it that way though, lol.

Oh, he'll get one real soon from what I heard tonight from a Ouachita person of interest. It was a misunderstanding on both sides. Conner hasn't been as focal about his love for LSU like Davenport, Ford, etc.... He hasn't even told the coaches until recently about how he wanted a chance at running back. What is comes down to from what I heard is WILL LSU give him a chance at running back, or are they timid? From the quotes I read today from Connor it sure seems like LSU wanted him, so I think it gets worked out fairly quickly. They want him and he is the Scott type back that will spell shifty backs like Holliday and Murphy. Although if you watch his highlights he has some mad acceleration and speed.

If we are putting top 100 athletes like this on hold, you would have to think we feel confident that we have a great chance of doing exceptionally well at any position Conner would project at. You could actually see this as good news about this coming recruiting class.

Is he not interested in pursuing a role as LBer? This is possibly why we had a miscommunication or the coaches are hesitant. We need a good class of LBers and if this kid wants to be a running back, and the coaches want him at LBer, there may have been a miscommunication along the way. LSU can always drag great backs... what we have issues with is dragging great LBers (and always have for the most part).

I think this guy is good... but if we already have 2 or 3 more talented running backs that are possibly committing and this kid doesn't want to play LBer... then LSU may be just trying to discuss it with him ie press the LBer issue and see if this kid will budge. Whatever it is, I hope it gets sorted out.

I look at this with a great deal of pleasure...after the NCG's etc, I knew (as we all did) it was really gonna impact recruiting in a big way. The best part of all this means, we'll be terrorizing the SEC for some years to come.:tigereye:

Whats the old saying - "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" !! All that being said its their (lsu coaches) job not ours. Our job is to give our humble uneducated opinion & bitch & moan about yours...

According to Scout, Montrell Conner has offers from LSU?, Alabama(curses), Mississippi, TCU & Tennessee. I hope hope hope he don't go to Alabama...... Maybe their offer is Unacceptable.

Because we only have so many spots for each position. It looks like we want to take 3 LBs and 2 RBs.

Conner isn't going to get an offer as a RB. He may get an offer as a LB, but the coaches haven't seen him in that position enough, which is why they are still evaluating him. If he's as good or better than any of the other LBs we would take - then he will be offered as a LB.
