Re: Montrell Conner is a Tiger! Coaches have their own rankings. What Rivals ranks a prospect as is irrelevant... I'm assuming it is because Mingo's ceiling is higher. Conner is a better player right now, but that's not as important as how good each can be. I haven't seen any film on Mingo yet, so I can't say for sure. Well, coaches aren't infallible - they definitely make mistakes.

I have always read the stuff on these sites, but after seeing what transpired today I left the house came home and saw that it was for naught! I need to clarify that I was not saying that he was better than Ford or anybody for that matter. Ford is a beast and is a sure 5 star running back. I believe that he is a better all around tailback than either Connor or Ford. I just know after seeing the two in person that Connor has the frame of Brandon Jacobs and that is saying a lot I know, but it is true. His running style is like his and Adrian Peterson. I like him at Linebacker though like everyone else. He would be a 5 star linebacker if he had stayed there and not moved to tailback in the middle of his sophmore year. He has never had to change his running style because he has been so much bigger and faster than everybody else. He caught teams by surprise his sophmore year, but this year he had to adjust because you could tell that other teams that they played each year had watched plenty of film on him and knew his style. He adjusted throughout the year and became a great runner by the end. I personally would like to see him at linebacker too. But, I also want the Jones kid too. I saw him play against Acadiana and West Monroe a couple of years ago and he was a stud as a sophmore. Last year as a junior when I saw him against Acadiana he looked fast and quick to the ball. But, really he is a lot like Mingo in the way they both are projects because of their size. But, the coaches do know best, parso is right and they know what they are doing.:geaux:
Re: Montrell Conner is a Tiger! Tigerfan03 FWIW I agree with you. Connor is a better footbal player than several of the guys we took last year. I assumed he was one of our top got to have guys in state this year.
Re: Montrell Conner is a Tiger! Mingo no doubt could be something special, I'm not saying that. I have had the pleasure of seeing this kid play and he is fast as all get out. To say he isn't fast as a bullet would be lying through my teeth. This kid is a fast mama jama. The problem is he is so small. I'm trying to be nice here, but there really is no way in sugar coating it, he is SMALL. He is great in pass rushing situations, but not in short yardage or against running teams like Ouachita and Acadiana were. Conner had over 100+ yards and Mingo had one assisted tackle right at the beginning of the game; Acadiana the same thing, they ran the ball right at him. The biggest play of the game against Acadiana on their winning drive involved Acadiana on 3rd and 6 max protecting leaving a back in to block Mingo. Mingo couldn't come off the block and it ended up being the play of the game because they converted that long 3rd down. If they didn't get it they would have punted and West Monroe more than likely would have won the game. That told me a lot, you could just brush him and he would fall. If they truly see him as having a higher ceiling than a player like Connor I would have a hard time with that. I just didn't see it anywhere last year. The linebacker for Bastrop would was a junior and isn't getting any love was the best linebacker I saw last year. I think his name was Skylar Brown, something like that he was #47 if you have a program from the championship game. He was amazing.
Re: Montrell Conner is a Tiger! NO, ha, I'm just a "passionate" fan, as you so eloquently put it!!! Ha!! If I were I'd let you know for sure. I know him personally, but I am definitely not him. I just love LSU football and I want the players that I feel are the best to be at my and your school. I haven't even mentioned the Cameron Blakes kid from Ouachita who is a physical freak too. LSU really is high on him too, but not many people talk about it. I know the coaches say that LSU, Florida, and Georgia are really looking at Blakes hard. I wonder sometimes whether or not he and Connor are on something with the way they are built. The are freaking body-builders playing football. Blakes doesn't have the upside of Mingo at all though. He isn't as fast by any means, just bigger and stronger and better against the run. Not nearly the pass rushing specialist that coaches love. That is why he more than likely isn't getting an offer. Needs more speed.
Re: Montrell Conner is a Tiger! Unfortunately for those that don't have it, SEC speed is required to make it to LSU these days. It's a numbers crunch this year. A lot of players will be disappointed LSU didn't offer them. It's just the way it will be this year. I hope we end up signing 22-23 like I projected, instead of the 14-17 like early predictions indicate. LSU is reaping the rewards of winning an NC, and we can't quite cash it all in. Isn't this a fun problem to have?

When Blakes was a sophmore he played safety at 6'2 190 lbs and was great, but he got so darn big that they had to move him to outside linebacker and he seemed to lose some speed. Now he still has great footwork and he comes off his blocks and makes plays behind the backfield after coming off those blocks extremely well, but he can't run anybody down like Mingo or Jones can. I remember Mingo almost walking down Morvant from behind in the playoffs and I was lik "whoa" that is fast. Like I said he is fast as crap, but he just is so small and weak against the run. If he bulks up A LOT he will be so scary bad. That is what they are banking on and I understand that, WE HAVE FREAKING MOFFITT... OH, and someone tell me how the Pro's haven't caught on about Moffitt and tried to steal him away??? I've always wondered, but no one ever talked about it.
