I would love the trade down to get Wells, but what if we can't trade down and Jenkins is off the board? Would it be worth taking Wells at 14, or do you find a better overall player?
Wells is going to be gone probably after 15 so we won't be able to trade down and get him. So either we take him at 14 or not at all probably. Dont think Wells is worth our 14th pick would rather take someone else. My sleeper Safety/CB pick Sean Smith is now projected as a first round and most have him going to the Patroits at 23rd and say he may go higher.
Guess he's not much of a sleeper anymore. I would like to go to the second round and get Smith or maybe William Moore from Missouri. There are lots of free safety options that should be there in the second round.
Yeah I guess running 4.4s and 6'3 size and athletism running punts and interceptions back has that type of impact. I still would like for him to be in blk and gold and Gartrell johnson for a bruiser who Saints could get in later rounds and would be great value.

Of the NFL.com mocks, the only one that makes ANY sense is Kirwin's (second link). The first has us passing on both Jenkins AND Maybin to pick Vontae Davis?? That's a problem waiting to happen. The 3rd doesn't even have Jenkins being drafted in the first round... takes away credibility right there. The 4th isn't as bad, but I wouldn't take Wells over Maybin.
Let's say you're the Saints' GM and you can't trade your 1st round pick. Who do you select with pick #14? QB-No TE-No RB-Nobody worth that selection WR-Only if Crabtree mysteriously falls G-No C-No OT-Interesting considering you could trade Brown next year. DT-Probably not DE-Brian Orakpo, Everette Brown LB-Aaron Curry should be long gone. If so, better value at other positions. CB-Vontae Davis @ #14...No S-Malcolm Jenkins Getting a Malcolm Jenkins who can play S/CB, a Brian Orakpo or a Everette Brown who can play DE/LB, or a top position player Crabtree, Curry make a lot of sense for the Saints. I don't think the Saints will take an OT but it's possible if they're already looking to future moves and salary cap considerations. This will probably be the only impact player they acquire in this year's draft, so I think they need someone who can contrinute this year. That's why I think they'll probably go defense.
I'd say it's between Beanie Wells, Malcolm Jenkins, and Maybin. Cushing or Matthews could also be possible, but would be more likely if we traded down. I'd dispute the statement that we need to find someone who will contribute this year. That would be the best case, but I think we'd be okay to pick for the future at this point. We don't have any positions on our team that are an overwhelming need at any position. I would be perfectly fine with picking the BPA at pretty much any position other than QB or WR (and even that's negotiable if Crabtree were to fall, which he won't).
Of that group, I would prefer Jenkins. My comment regarding contributing this year was based on us not having a #2 or #3 pick this year. In order to receive any significant impact this year from this draft, it will probably need to come from the #1 pick. As much as we need a RB to move the chains and give the defense a breather, I think #14 is too high for Wells. Trading down seems like a good option but finding a taker willing to part with another pick won't be easy. I hope management does a great job but I wouldn't decline the offer if a higher power wanted to throw a little luck our way. :hihi:
