Interesting....that mock has the Saints taking Tyson Jackson. Interesting thing to me about that (aside from the fact that you can never have enough former Tigers in Saints uniforms) is that he sees it as a reaction to Will Smith and Charles Grant facing 4-game suspensions. So what do you do after that 1/4 of a season problem is done. We'd have 3 no. 1's invested in a position where you only need 2 starters....unless either Jackson or Grant moves inside next to Sed. I think either could have possibilities.

Wrong time for that move. I agree that Reggie has to be utilized the way he was in his rookie year, which means we need another full time tailback. I think Pierre Thomas has earned the chance to prove he can be that back, even if the audition is just for this year. Even if he's not up to the task, our offense is good enough as is to take us far into the playoffs, maybe even the Super Bowl, if our defense can hold up its end of the bargain. So go heavy on defense this draft. If PT proves unable to be The Man, we can go for a big back in the '10 draft....and Charles Scott will be in that draft pool. Isn't that interesting..........?

I dont see them taking Tyson eventhough he did play inside some with some speed rush packages but didn't really the consistent play from him at LSU and I agree they dont need to spend another 1 on that position especially if you dont think he will dominate and be that 11+ sacks a year potential. I really hope they don't take Jenkins when Darius Butler and Sean Smith are better than him and even Vontae Davis. If they go offense I would rather J.Maclin or Oline because the Saints are good in past blocking but I wouldn't mind seeing more of a physical and more toughness in run blocking in the oline plus when your"best" oline is always in trade rumors and has some injury issues wouldn't hurt to upgrade that position. Overall I choices for the first round besides trading down and getting more picks would be: Darius Butler, Sean Smith, Michael Oher, P.Jerry or J.Maclin. Also the Saints could probably trade to get in the 3rd Round where they could pick up a Pat White who I really wish could be the Saints Future QB, S/CB Victor Harris, RB R.Jennings who is a big back and a steal imo and FS D.Pegues, think they will probably draft Ricky Jean Francois with one of their Fourth Round picks. Jasper Brinkley, Glenn Coffee, Mike Wallace,Lee Robinson, LaDarius Webb,Arian Foster and Henry Melton are more late round options as well that could help the Saints.

Well, personally, I am not one of those who thinks PThomas is the answer. I think he has had some good moments/games, think he has some potential as a quality back-up, but do not think he is capable of being an every down back week after week in the NFL. He is a mystery, and not someone I would base my draft decisions on (mystery = not yet predictably reliable). He was given a chance several times last season to get that 1 yard on 3rd and 1, 4th and 1 late in the game that would have extended drives and likely led to a win, and did not get the yard. That happened several times late in the season, as it did for RBush early in the season. When they turned to Pierre more late in the season, he did not deliver.
As far as their offense being good enough w/o a reliable every down back, you are probably right, if our defense steps up this year. We lost at least 3 games that we should have won last year by not being able to get that short first down. To me, that was the glaring offensive issue that kept us out of the playoffs (but if we had a defense maybe it would not have come to that).

I agree that we should stick with defense with the first pick, and possibly trade down to get some extra picks. However, SPeyton's history has been to use the draft to get more firepower on offense. I think he may feel/use the excuse that they have spent the offseason/free agency to focus on defense, have brought in a new def. coord. and multiple players, and go ahead and draft a RB. Kiper's pick of Beanie Wells would not surprise me.

It definitely wouldn't surprise me its just if we went offense I would rather draft Maclin if he fell to us or if a miracle Crabtree fell to us and take Rashad Jennings in the later round that doesn't have the durability issues Beanie does.

I agree, this was our biggest weakness on offense last year. But you can't leave Heath Evans out of the equation now. 250 pound back who is a much more viable option with the ball in his hands than Mike Karney. Karney averages 2.0 ypc for his career, Evans is at 3.6. That extra 1 and a half yards could have put us in the playoffs last year.

yeah, Heath was a nice addition. can hopefully open up a little more daylight for those short yardage situations.

did anyone see mtriplett's article in TP today? sounds like CSP is leaning towards an RB, and he sounds smitten with KMoreno.

    Just throwing it out there..

Byrd, Tyson, RJF, Big Herm, Quinn Johnson, Beckwith and Curtis Taylor are going to be on NFL rosters next year (it looks like). We'll have the 2nd most players on NFL rosters very soon. Behind Miami. We'll also take over the #2 spot for the 'consecutive player drafted in the first round' streak it looks like.
