Like I said, everyone picked up the story from NFLDraftBible.com. The AJC simply listed that blog as it's source. THAT blog reported "NFL sources". The actual NFL website has already said this report is false (see the link I posted above). Players who did fail were notified 3 weeks ago.

The intial provider of the story is a mock NFL draft blog with zero credibility who is trying to increase visibility in advance of the draft. Imagine if that site had reported an LSU player failing a drug/steroid test..........still a legit report?

What round is Pat White projected to go? Definitely wouldn't mind the Saints drafting him and him learning from Drew Brees for a few years being the future

Surprised the AJC ran it if it's clearly bogus. Well. Sorta surprised.

Report of Matthews Drug Test Refuted

In response to NFLDraftBible.com’s report that USC linebacker Clay Matthews tested positive for steroids at the NFL Scouting Combine, the agent that represents Matthews has issued an e-mail addressing the situation.

In an e-mail sent to Rick Serritella at NFLDraftBible.com, Athletes First vice president and general counsel Mark Humenik stated that neither Matthews nor his agents have been informed of any failed drug test. Plus, he added that a lawyer for the league office told him that the NFL hasn’t received notification that any players have tested positive for steroids at the combine.

NFLDraftBible.com also reported that USC linebacker Brian Cushing has tested positive for steroids.

Here’s an unabridged copy of the note addressed to NFLDraftBible.com, which is the web site that reported on Matthews and several other players’ allegedly positive tests:

“Our office represents Clay Matthews. Your website is reporting, via unnamed sources including one NFL team, that Clay tested positive for steroids at the NFL Combine. As I’m sure you know, the NFL Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances clearly states that ‘any Club or Club employee that publicly divulges, directly or indirectly, information concerning positive tests or other violations of this Policy (including numerical summaries or specific names of persons) or otherwise breaches the confidentiality provisions of this Policy is subject to a fine of up to $500,000 by the Commissioner.’

“Further, neither Clay nor our office has received notification of any positive test, whether for steroids or any banned substance.

Agents: Raji did not fail drug test

NEW YORK (AP) -- The agents representing one of the NFL draft's top prospects, defensive tackle B.J. Raji, strongly disputed a report that the former Boston College player failed a drug test at the league's scouting combine in February.

In an e-mail sent to The Associated Press on Tuesday, Brian Murphy and Mark Humenik referred to the reports as "cowardly" and "malicious," noting their client has not been notified by the NFL of any failed test.

"The media reports accusing B.J. of a failed drug test at the Combine are false," Murphy and Humenik wrote. "Given the cowardly attacks and damage to B.J.'s character as a result of these vicious rumors, we sincerely hope the responsible parties are discovered and held accountable for their actions."

Murphy and Humenik, based in Irvine, Calif., also noted that the NFL has issued a statement challenging the report initially posted on SI.com on Thursday.

The SI.com report, which did not identify the drug, was attributed to unidentified NFL team sources. The Web site reported that Raji's name will be on a list of players who tested positive.

In a statement released by the NFL last week, the league said neither its 32 teams nor the league office know the results of drug or steroid tests taken at the combine. Instead, players who test positive are notified in writing by the independent medical advisers who perform the testing.

"Unfortunately, rumors about draft-eligible players, including rumors about test results, begin to circulate every year at this time," the league statement said. "Many of these rumors are circulated for self-serving reasons, and they are terribly unfair to the players and their families."

Raji's agents said their client has not been contacted by the league or a medical adviser regarding a positive test.

Raji disputed the report in an interview with The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, Calif., in a story posted on the newspaper's Web site late Monday night.

"I couldn't understand how this rumor became such a big splash in the media when there was no evidence -- there was no substance to believe it," Raji was quoted as saying. "Now, I'm happy the truth is out."

Mel Kiper now has the Saints picking Beanie Wells. What does everyone think about that? I certainly like his combo of size and speed as a main weapon with Reggie going back to catching out of the backfield/decoy, etc. But, you wonder if they could get a quality back later, and stick with defensive side with the first pick like everyone has been saying.

I'm not going to raise hell if we take him, because if we would have had a back that could pick 3rd and 1 last year we would of been in the playoffs. But I think we just need to stick on the path of deffense, because if our defense wasn't just flat out pooh last year we could have been in SB. We can get a back later, maybe not a name like Beanie but one that can produce what we need.
