White is not coming & Phillips has gone back to Georgia. This years team will be thinner up front & still no real threats from long range. Van may be the "MAN" but so far a minus is all I see.... I hope he does great but so far there is nothing positive to get excited about... Go Tigers

    Pretend you're Van Chacellor.

You're recruiting for 2008-2009. You have 1 Senior, 1 Junior, and two Sophomores returning (most likely none of who will have extensive stating experience). Do you:

    1) Target a "franchise" player like April Sykes and go after her full bore. This is a LSU team whose fans are used to having a "star" quality: Seimone, Sylvia....do you keep fans coming to the game with a "name draw"?

    2) Shoot for short term results by trying to bring in predominant junior college kids that have only two years of eligibility left but who have post high school experience. The downside of this is that you take up schollies that could be used for athletes who will grow within the program for four years.

    3) Aim for long range targets by bringing in frosh kids who might not be experienced but can mature into your type of program over four year. The downside is that their may be a couple of rocky years that might hurt damage attendance which has grown the past few years.

    4) Do a combo of steps 2 and 3.

    5) Focus more on bringing in top in-state kids as well as some national talent.

    Thanks.

Here's a site I check to find out specifics about April Sykes. Rod Walker does a good job keeping up with the Kids in the Jackson, Mississippi area.
