Without a doubt. There's no debating it.

That team is a close 2nd for me. They did lose 17 games that year, including 5 a row at one point, a 3 game sweep at home by Houston, and a few other teams that they had no business losing to (McNeese St. Central Florida), but after a 14-0 lose to Bama in the final regular season game of the year, they ran the table in the tournament, the regional, super regional, and CWS without losing a single game. Talk about peaking at the right time.

I went with the 97 team because they almost (and should have) won 60 games that year, which is unheard of, and they crushed everyone they played that year, with the exception of Bama, which beat us 28-2 in one game of the final regular season series. In fact, Bama had the exact same record as we did (56-13) going into the championship game, so that was a damn good team too. In 6 games we played against them that year, each team won 3. Good thing for us that our 3rd win just happen to be in the CWS final.

I watched the highlights of that 2000 NC game and found some articles about that season. That may not have been the most talented LSU team, but I think they were probably the grittiest; they were scrappers, no doubt about it.

Probably the most fun team to watch. It was gorilla ball at its finest. Didn't matter if they were down, you knew a three run shot was coming.
