They shouldn't. On the other hand its more than a few and it's terrorists and criminal gangs as well as lunatics. Perhaps we can give up a few small pleasures to reduce the number of military weapons in the hands of civilians, certainly they can be registered.

Well, if you can craft some language that will satisfy both the NRA extremists and the gun control extremists it would be a remarkable breakthrough. It would certainly satisfy average Americans in the middle. The right has to get beyond the notion that any regulation at all will lead to total control. The left needs to get beyond the notion that we can just make 300 million guns go away. Everybody needs to get beyond the notion that nothing can be done. Too many people are like you and me and want to have reasonable access to weapons but favor additional measures to keep the military weapons out of the hands of criminals, terrorists, lunatics, and children.

Well, total control will never happen.

The likely fix is a ban to be honest. The few will ruin it for the responsible.

It's statisticall true that owning a gun means you are more likely to get shot. Part of at is the fact that people involved with violence tend to own guns, so it isn't cause effect in the sense that owning a gun gets you shot. But to some extent it is because lots of times the gun that kills you is your own, like the woman in Connecticut killed by her son with her own guns.

That true, and I will be scared if that happens. I have done large amounts of research about where i can't go at all in caracas and even hired a local advisor/driver so I don't get followed by bandits from the airport, which regularly happens to gringos there.

It's true. I can knock that bag over some nights, sometimes repeatedly. Some of the other men can, but not many of the women. So I'm proud of that! :p

"U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies."

Soak that in for a second martin.

33,000 die a year from guns. 70 - 100 people US citizens own guns. That's 3% of all gun owners die a year if you only assume 100 million US people own guns and the death was a person who owned a gun. That's around less than 1% of all deaths in the US are from guns. US population is 314,974,551..

You sell me on how unsafe the gun ownership is.

It is overwhelming how much safe gun users out weigh unsafe users who intend to do harm.

    And check this..

The majority of gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides,[6] with 17,352 (55.6%) of the total 31,224 firearm-related deaths in 2007 due to suicide, while 12,632 (40.5%) were homicide deaths.[7]

56% of gun deaths relate to suicide. The other 40% where actual murders.

13,000 people out of 300+ million people.....

I don't think you can paint 70-100 Million people as unsafe just by owning a gun. If you can, you show me how and why.
