Bonvillian into pitch bot of 7th, but gets pulled after back-to-back singles and a run scores on an error by 2B Yocum. he is replaced by Bourgeois. Runner tries to steal 2nd, and Ross guns him down!!! and now wow: McNeese runner takes off from third on a pop out to Mason Katz at first base and they double him up for the easy DP

    after 7:
    10-5

still in top 9, LSU is going nuts on McNeese

Grounder to SS who throws wide to 2nd scores another run. Rhymes RBI single. Hanover 2-run double. another run walked in. McNeese is going through pitchers like crazy (they went through 5 pitchers in the inning).

    19-5 LSU

1B Mason Katz was 4 for 4 last night with 4 RBI, and he reached base all 5 times he took the plate (single, 3-run home run, walk, double, RBI single). he also scored 3 runs

3B Tyler Hanover was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI (2-RBI double, single, 2-RBI double). he also scored 2 runs

RF Raph Rhymes was 2 of 5 with 2 RBI (RBI single, RBI single). he also scored 2 runs

combined, those three were 9 of 14 (.643) with 10 RBI, and they also scored 7 runs

CF JaCoby Jones was 2 of 4 (single, single). he scored 2 runs, one of which he set up by stealing second base and putting himself in scoring position

freshman Evan Powell (who was on the 16U USA National Team that won the Gold in Taiwan) came in as a pinch hitter in the 9th and got his first RBIs of his LSU career with a 2-run double

the good news is that the other two closers have been doing great: newcomers Goody and A. Nola:

Aaron Nola was the closer in Friday's 4-0 victory over Appy State, and pitched a perfect two innings: he pitched the 8th and 9th. in the 8th, it was: K, K, fielding error by LF, K. in the 9th, he knocked them down 1-2-3 (K, ground out, ground out)

    as for Nick Goody:

    1) In the season opener vs Air Force, Goody went into the pitch the 9th and struck out the side (K, K, K)

    2) Saturday vs Appy State, he pitched the 8th and 9th innings, and only gave up 1 single (a bunt single), and retired the other 6 batters he faced. in the 8th: K, bunt single, K, ground out. in the 9th, he knocked them down 1-2-3 (K, fly out, ground out)

for the season so far Goody has pitched 5 innings, has a 0.00 ERA, and opposing batters are only batting .167 against him

other bull pen guys doing well are junior Joey Bourgeois (opposing batters are only hitting .111 against him this season) and junior Chris Cotton (opposing batters are only hitting .214 against him this season).

Bourgeois pitched the 7th inning vs McNeese yesterday, the 4th and 5th innings vs Appy State on Sunday, and the 6th inning vs McNeese on Feb 22

Cotton pitched the 6th inning vs McNeese yesterday, the 8th inning vs Grambling the day before that, the 7th inning vs Appy State on Sunday, the 7th inning vs Appy State on Saturday, and the 8th inning vs Alcorn State on Feb 18

as for Rumbelow (a sophomore), this is how he's done as our closer:

    1) On Feb 18, Rumbelow pitched the 9th inning vs Alcorn St, and it went: single, walk, K, grounder to SS who threw out the runner at 2nd, K to end the inning.

    2) On Feb 19, Rumbelow pitched the 9th inning vs Air Force, and it went: error by SS, next better grounded to SS, who threw out the runner at 2nd. then pop out, single, K (but reached 1st on throwing error by C), fly out to end the inning.

    3) On Feb 22 vs McNeese, Rumbelow pitched the 9th inning, and it went: ground out, single, fly out, walk, K to end the inning.

    4) On Sunday vs Appy State, Rumbelow took the mound in the 8th, gave up a double, then got a K to end the inning. then he pitched the whole 9th: single, walk, ground-out, 2-RBI single, foul out, K to end the inning.

    5) On Tuesday vs Grambling, he did great: he came in to pitch the 9th inning , and knocked them down 1-2-3.

    6) Last night, Rumbelow did awful: single, 2-run home run, hit by pitch, grounder to Dozar who threw out the runner at 2B, K, walk, 3-run home run, K to end the inning
