If an undefeated Michigan & LSU went to the wire, LSU would go easily (because Michigan has a very weak SOS). But the same cannot be said about Ohio State, who plays #2 Texas & a (projected) #3 Michigan & others. Also, OSU has enough clout left from their 2002 NC to get the votes along with LSU (who has the 2003 NC). It would be a nail-biter between an unbeaten LSU & OSU. We'll let George Bush flip a coin. :hihi: Let's just hope OSU drops one late in the season, their usual custom lately.
I'm not saying it wouldn't be close, but you can't really determine SOS by looking only at the top teams played. Last year AU played more ranked teams than OK and USC, but had a lower SOS than both of them because the bad teams they played were much worse than the bad teams that USC and OK played. It's why AU finished 3rd in all the computer models. Not saying it's right, but it's just the way it is. It's nearly impossible to tell if OSU or LSU has a significantly stronger SOS at this point. But if things work out, LSU will have another game against a high quality opponent with few losses in the SEC CG. This will boost our SOS significantly. I agree that it's quite possible that OSU would be ranked #2 in the human polls, but it would be close. Ironicly, and somehow justly, we would benefit from AU not getting in last year. If it's close, I couldn't tell you for sure, but I think the advantage would be LSU because it's highly likely we would be solidly ahead in the computer models. Just my opinion.
You know, an LSU shot at the NC comes down to a few things. 1. How fast Jimbo Fisher can develop the free-at-last vertical passing attack (that will roll up some big numbers on offense & the scoreboards). 2. LSU will need a little luck in the injury department (after losing the Bruiser) to go undefeated, even though they'll probably be favored in all their regular season games. 3. LSU needs the following teams to lose 1 game. Texas (for sure) & OSU (maybe). Michigan won't matter. 4. LSU will need to win the SECCG, most likely a TN rematch. :geauxtige :champs: :helmet: :geauxtige  :champs: :helmet: :crystal:
Before we go racing off to the Roses, let's take of North Texas. I still remember the satisfaction of steping on orange roses after an SEC title gmae not that long ago. I never want to be in the "foregone win" mind set, DiNardo and Hudson weren't here that long ago. The Houston Bowl isn't too far from Pasadena, either, Pasadena TEXAS.
Texas :dis: Mack Brown is still the Coach in Austin - that is good for one loss right there. To quote my friend JM: "I live in Austin, Texas. And I gotta tell you, there's probably no better place to be for this year's UT season if you're a Longhorn hater like myself. With all the Rose Bowl hype, a Number 2 National Ranking, and now these Heismen hopeful Vince Young is "better than Michael Vick" comparisons, the University of Texas is just setting itself up for a disappointing mediocre season. "Not only do the horns travel to THE Ohio State University for the second game of the season, but isn't Oklahoma still on the schedule? Did they take that game off? No? Oh, that's still on there? Okay, I see... "My UT friends (actually sworn enemies) are no doubt sending me emails right now, refuting my claims with only two words: Vince Young. "My reply is that sure, Young is fast and he was responsible for five touchdowns in last year's Rose Bowl, but I've seen him practicing on TV several times this month and one indisputable fact remains . . . HE STILL THROWS LIKE A GIRL. Not even a big, butch girl, but like those prissy ones who wear dresses. "And as for the Heisman hopes, I'm telling you as a friend (actually sworn enemy) to just let them go. Save yourself some stress. Going in to a season with as much hype as Vince Young currently has, it only takes one crappy game for him to lose the trophy, and I can guarantee Vince will sh!t the bed on two or maybe even three occassions. "Trust me, I was at the Missouri game last year when Vince threw two of the worst interceptions I've ever seen and then faked hurt in order to get the hell out of the game. Although he did mangage to come back for the second half and pull out the win with an impressive 3 for 9 for 39 yards. "Look for Vince Young to be an excellent receiver in the NFL."
