Damn good thing we've had the 5 star wr's we've signed since 2000 or so: Clayton, Bowe, Doucet, Byrd to name at least some of them. We would likely have had a few more losses over the past 7 years without these guys we held out for.
Yeah, saw that a few days ago. I was holding out hope because I think he is going to be a good one. Knew it was a long shot but I was rooting for him. Turns out he was more focused on playing defense rather than a Hester like RB/FB.
Dandy Don thinks: Les Miles has received commitments from three offensive linemen, two linebackers, two defensive linemen, two running backs, two quarterbacks, one wide receiver and one athlete. I believe that Miles would like to sign two more offensive linemen, three more defensive linemen, three more wide receivers, two more linebackers, one more running back and two more great athletes.
In these cases the coaches usually explain that the other prospect isn't expected to qualify, thus not scaring off any other highly rated players. It's all risk vs reward. We take a handful of questionable qualifiers every year & hope they make it. Sometimes they do & it works out, sometimes they don't.
We currently have 5 OL commits (Downs, Ainsworth, Faulk, Lowe, and Orelus) and it appears we'll be switching Orelus for Williford. IMO, we're done at OL - unless Downs is a DT, in which case we may accept a commitment from Su'a-Filo.
Agree about Williford for Orelus but I think we take Filo if he wants to commit. Not positive but if he goes on the 2 year Mormon mission straight out of HS he will not count on our 85 man roster so it would be like a sign and place or greyshirt where he will not count against our recruiting numbers this class. He would still have 4 years of eligibility left but could sign with some other team when he returns if he chooses.
Good point. It hadn't occured to me that he wouldn't count against our limit this year. Quick, someone go to BYU's football board and check all of the rules!
True, Filo wouldn't count if he goes on his trip, but he & Wilson were considering delaying their trip.
