Strangely enough, martin is the warmest so far. Though still not too close.

Is this object still manufactured? If so, is it available in any other materials?

is it a tool to open and close vents on a cast iron stove?

This object is still manufactured and used. I believe that aluminum versions exist as well as iron. A similar object exists in nylon, but it works differently.

    It is not.

We have a Bissell carpet sweeper. It's in storage right now, but it has a tool that looks pretty much identical to that. It is used to clean the brushes of the carpet sweeper. Any similar use for this tool?

Is it what holds a murphy bed to the wall on the end opposite the hinge?
