Bon Marche is on Florida Blvd and not really that close to Independence Park. The area behind Bon Marche is definitely not a nice area.

This is a weak argument. Mall City as it's referred to, the area directly behind the former Bon Marche Mall, is much worse than any area around the Perkins Road Walmart. It's one of the worst areas in BTR. That area, combined with the fact that it was the old mall when Cortana opened is what turned that mall ghetto. Independence Park, which is further away than you are admitting, has nothing to do with it.

The Perkins Road Walmart isn't truly ghetto, but I'll admit it's pretty dirty and it does sustain some questionable clientelle. That being said, it's really not that bad. I've stopped there plenty of times in my life, and have never had any problems. I did have to call 911 once in the parking lot, but that was because as I was getting out of my car, a lady next to me started screaming because her little girl had stopped breathing. As far as the many cops that are always there as someone stated, I've only seen one cop there at a time, and that's because they hire city cops for security. The cop that got shot was by a seriously messed up guy that had just gotten out of prison, and he was shot with her own gun. The guy who shot her was trying to steal a desposable camera and they caught him. The cop went to arrest him, he struggled with her and got her gun, and started to leave, then turned around walked back, and shot her in the face. A good friend is a city cop so I got the play by play. The guy was messed up, but it had nothing to do with that Walmart. If you use that logic, then there are plenty of places you should avoid in BTR. How about the TCBY yogurt store in the Bocage shopping center on Jefferson? It was held up a few years ago. What about the Cracker Barrel gas station on Bluebonnet right by the Interstate? It was held up a few months after it was opened, and it's nowhere near a ghetto.

I don't even know why I'm writing all this. This is a pretty ridiculous thread, as far as arguing over the safety of a Walmart. I just live in the Southdowns area, and I go to that Walmart regularly, and I've never had any problems at all. I can understand a single chick not wanting to go there at night. I wouldn't recommend that either, but for guys to fear going to the Walmart on Perkins is just kinda silly.

Besides, this is all pointless, because the Perkins Rd. Walmart will close when the new super Walmart on College opens. I don't know the exact date, but it's any day now. So all of you who need to make a Walmart run at night won't have to drive to Seigen Lane to avoid the Perkins Road boogiemen.

I really don't understand why this thread got so out of hand. I was just posting it to let everyone know I met two good football players there. It wasn't even at night that I went!!! :thumb:

Another good place is AM Seafood Liquor Store on Highland, I met Ben Wilkerson there this weekend. It is pretty scary though, I must say. This one guy was like one step from killing the lady at the cash-register, and that would have been no good for me, Mr. Wilkerson, or any of my friends.

Okay you may be right about the distance between Bon Marche and Independence Park. i have been in the Army for almost 2 years now so my whole directions think back home is thrown off really bad. Hell I use to live on Aster Street right off of campus and that was pretty damn bad. House got broken into three times, it was just a statment to pass the time. And that Walmart, eventhough I have been in there MANY TIMES, is the most Ghetto I have ever seen.

Hey man, it's all good. I honestly have no idea why I wrote all that this morning anyway. I was just bored at work I guess. I admit that the Perkins Rd. Walmart is pretty nasty, and probably the most ghetto that we have around here. I just thought that people talking about avoiding it at night at all costs for fear of their lives was kinda silly. That's all. The old one out by Cortana Mall got pretty bad, but not too long ago they replaced it with a nice, new, big Super Walmart (which if I'm not mistaken is the biggest in BTR now). And I guess if you haven't been around then you probably weren't aware of the new Super Walmart going up on College Drive where the Service Merchandise used to be (actually they tore down Village Square with the original Coffee Call and all). I don't know what day it's opening, but trucks have been stocking it for weeks, and last week I saw a ton of employees in their blue vests leaving at about 6pm. I'm assuming they're either training or stocking, so I'd guess it's getting pretty close. I'm not at all looking forward to the traffic on College Drive, since I live right down the road and have to travel that way all the time, but it will be convenient to make some midnight Christmas shopping runs.

Back to the original thread though, the only player I ever met like that was Chad Lavalais early this year, right after LSU won the NC. Ironically it was also in a Walmart, but it was the one on Siegen. To be completely honest he wasn't very nice. He passed me in the isle, and I said hey hoping he'd at least stop and shake my hand or something, but he just kinda walked by. I said "congratulations" or something like that, and he just said "thanks" as he walked away. I chalked it up to the fact that he'd probably gotten really sick of people recognizing him and wanting to talk to him, so I didn't hold it against him.
