Zook was never given a fair shot at Florida; the fireronzook site was being set up a few weeks after Florida announced his hiring. But, I never really thought Zook was a good coach although he was a great recruiter. Illinois is doing good this year, but Ron Turner was able to win 10 games at Illinois one year. Its too early to know if this is just a flash in the pan, or if something Zook can maintain over a period of years.
They gave us everything, in our house, and we required 5 fourth down conversions to win. Their attack doesn't match up well with Auburn's speed. UGA? Richt has been pulling out all the stops to kickstart his team.
OSU's weakness was exposed by UF last year. I think the Zookster has brought the SEC style of play into the Big 10; particularly the speed. He will do well if the rest of the Big 10 remains standing still and continues recruiting the same slow players.
I think you have me confused with someone else when it comes to football discussion. I wrote Brady off in 2002.
After reading the first page of the post and not realizing that it was 3 yrs old, I was sort of freaking out. Petrino to Ole Miss? I couldn't believe Petrino was pulling a Saban and coming back to college with his tail between his legs. Then I realized I was an idiot. Anyway, I don't if I want Zook on Skip's shortlist. He had the talent at UF and he as pretty inconsistent. Winning games against better performing teams then losing games to people he shouldn't lose to. There is no doubt he is a good recruiter and gets them ready to play the big games, but he is a little inconsistent for me. I agree with the fact that he didn't get a fair shake at UF. He was under severe scrutny from the get go. When Zook lost 4 games he was in hot water. Meyer will have to do that for 4 seasons before he gets scrutinized. Granted the NC title buys him lots of time. Zook was an unknown when they hired him and I believe had connections at UF and people didn't like that.
