From Todays Advocate article about when a report ask Russell Shepard what he thought his chances would of getting in the game Sat. when it looked like Lee and Jefferson were injured.. "With Jarrett Lee’s wrist in enough pain to require a trip to the locker room and Jordan Jefferson understandably woozy, LSU was dangerously close to handing the keys of its offense to a third quarterback against Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Who would No. 3 have been? For now, nobody knows because Jefferson and Lee toughed out the most physical game of the season even with three sacks and the tender wrist. What seems clear is Russell Shepard wouldn’t have gotten the call. “Zero,” Shepard said, holding his thumb and index finger together to underscore his point when asked if there was any discussion about him taking snaps with Lee and Jefferson dinged up. “With a lot of athletic quarterbacks around the country having success — Zach Martinez (Nebraska), Cam Newton (Auburn), Denard Robinson (Michigan) — I think a lot of people might think I need to play the position, but it’s not something I’ve been asked to do. If they ask me to do it, then I’d be happy to do it for the betterment of my team." Geez, Coaches. Can't we at least do some Wild Tiger or something with this kid? Aren't our QB's like 113 in the nation right now out of 120 teams? C'mon!!!!
I think RS knows his only shot at the NFL is as a receiver. Sure, he'd step up if asked, but he really does't want that. I'm still not convinced that JJ and JL are half as bad as the "haters" would like to think. RS would not be a Cam Newton ... running all over the place. I'm not even sure that he'd be a Dnard Robinson. If you're going to run the wild tiger .. how bout lining up Ford.
man, this subject is getting old. RS does not understand the playbook enough at the QB position, he cannot throw the ball, and gets confused to easily. The reason Newton, Martinez, and Robinson are successful running the wildcat is because they are a LEGIT threat to throw the ball...oh, and their OL is a little better than LSUs at the moment. anyway, im sure 3 more threads will be started on this subject today. And FWIW...Bailey is the #3 QB
This, I don't understand why people keep beating this horse. The kid is the most dangerous when we get him the ball in the open field, not out of the backfield.
:geaux: Maybe Ware because he can throw it. Although Ingram runs it pretty good for 'Bama & he's not even a threat to throw. :LSU231:
RS is a great team player. He will do what ever it takes to help the team win. I don't get any indication this is an unhappy player about his role on this team. This kid has one of the best attitudes of anyone I have seen at LSU in a long time. If we asked him to carry water out I'm sure he would be happy to do it. I wish the RS to QB would go away, he is where he is suppose to be. Once he gets the position and routes down as well as the intangibles he will learn about being a great receiver, I know he will not dissapoint.
Does that sound like a man who doesn't want to play quarterback? He thinks he can play it better than Jefferson.
Therein lies the problem.............how to get him the ball IN ANY FIELD, let alone an open one.
Fact: 1) Our 2 QB system sucks (113/120) 2) RS was one of the highest rated QB's in the nation 2 years ago 3) R. S has not thrown a pass this season 4) Our OL is hurting Opinion: 1) R. S. Does not understand how to run a Wildcat play 2) R. S can't throw a half-decent pass 3) T. C. would be a better Offensive weapon to use in case JJ and JL goes down I agree this argument is getting a bit worn out, but the were PLENTY of folks on this board proclaiming JL as THE GUY to lead this team this year...until he got on the field and showed that although he has improved he still has a long way to go. My only gripe is LETS TRY IT and see how he does. If he runs it a few times and bombs out then we will KNOW this is or is not a viable option.
