Which was why I used words like "may" and "might". Bottom line is it really doesn't matter, the kid has done what is best for his future and at a price tag of 5 mil who would blame him. Whether he used LSU or whether he really wanted the college experience may never really be known. What will be known is that he has the potential to have a great MLB career, and he and LSU will both move on without each other. To those that want to throw some blame on Miles for the situation we are in at QB, as has been pointed out Miles has done almost everything he could to make sure we have an adequate number of QB's lined up on the roster. A position that you can't be too deep at. As a program we need the adequate number of possible backups and future starting players. As a recruit you want to go to a team that you will have the opportunity to become a starter in your 4 yr term. Not enough and you are left short, like we might be, too many and they might take pause to coming, with concern they will never get to play. This situation we are in, although Miles does bare some of the burden, should not be blamed on Miles. Letting Garrett go, if he wasn't willing to put in the time, was the right thing to do. Losing Zack was something that Miles did everything he could to try and insure wouldn't happen. Although, on the surface, it appears we a bit lite at the QB position, the reality is we have several should we be forced to use them. Somebody may have to be switched back to the QB position, like RS, for our future, or should we be able to sign enough (2) in the next recruiting class we will be ok. Immediately I don't see this as a huge concern. It isn't that often that a team gets down to it's 4th string QB. We do have 3 active QB's on the roster. Granted one is a walk on, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the skill sets to manage the team, even though he was more than likely going to be the 4th QB on the roster.
Lee was covering all his bases and putting himself in the best position possible no matter what happened. I would say that is somewhat using LSU but you can't blame him, it was the smart thing to do. Anytime you're dealing with a player drafted that high it is a major gamble, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. It didn't work out for LSU this time and it's a major blow. I don't blame Lee, Miles or the Dodgers, no one is at fault here. It simply is what it is. Lee had multiple great opportunities and one paid more than he could refuse. Bad for LSU, good for Lee and the Dodgers. I wish him well and hope Miles and Marineri have a backup plan.
Joe Mauer First, I feel the pain in Tiger land. I can still recall the collective FSU pain when this happened in 2001. Joe Mauer was the USA Today Offensive Player of the Year in 2001 and was Minnesota's choice as the 'first to be picked' in the June baseball draft. He came to Fall practice while still in negotiations with the Twins. Even after just a few weeks of practice, the coaches knew he would be a big-time college QB if he stayed. Seems very similar to Lee's story. When he chose baseball, Bowden told him that there would always be a place for him if he decided to try football. I guess that's not going to happen. Can't blame Mauer; he's a future Hall of famer. I'm glad it worked out for him, but it sure would have been nice to see him try football. FSU was left with Chris Rix as a 4 year starter. Best of luck to the Tigers. I have a feeling that Jefferson will finally bloom this year, giving Les some time to recruit a great successor.
disagree wholeheartedly. the kid loves baseball. that is his sport. he wanted to see if he could make a splash with football, and maybe he just wasn't ready to give it up? after thinking about getting 5+ million to be a MLB pitcher -- doing what he loves -- i'd hate to say it, but LS WHO?
