She says she was forced to resign and was thrown under the bus by the Obama administration. She says they called her 3 times while she was in her car and on the 3rd call told her she was going to be on Glenn Beck that night and she was to pull over to the side of the road and resign, which she says she did (no kidding). Now, I saw the clip from the video which is pretty damning, but she claims there's more to it and puts the "racist" stuff in context. So, I'll reserve judgement until I see the whole thing. If you don't watch Fox News, you probably have no idea what we're talking abut.
Glad to here you say that. Black or white, this lady didn't deserve to lose her job in this manner. I think I could justify a political appointee losing their job even over the entire context...political appointee being the key word. I'll explain that in a bit. In the full video, she talks about this incident and how she grew from it...how she became very good friends with the farmer and eventually saved him from foreclosure. She talked further about the need for equality. The farmer's wife is now on record saying what is happening to her is wrong and that Ms. Sherrod is her friend for life. As a political appointee, she has to show a history of transparency and she did not do that. I do think the administration jumped the gun by ordering her removal. Especially in the greater scheme of things (she was the first black and first female State Director in a state that was previously historically racist and chauvinistic). They basically bullied her into resigning after being bullied by a piece of a clip. New clips are arriving now showing the full context of the speech. If you watch CNN, just about all their coverage is going towards this issue.
Fox News was all over the race angle, but today they are covering Sherrod's side as well. Like I say, Fair and Balanced.
And don't get me wrong...I think she should have resigned (and I think she believes that too considering the circumstances). But it could have been done in a way that didn't villainize her. Now she's looked at as a victim. I think USDA and WH officials could have gathered the facts, and had her resign while touting the good job she has done in her one year as State Director. I thought her past was interesting...father was murdered in a racial killing. Her family is also a party to the massive black farmers lawsuit. I think they have received their payout though. If so I should've asked her to buy me dinner when I saw her two weeks ago.
It now appears that the snippet of video we were shown yesterday was a lead in to her story about how the incident changed her outlook (in her job) from looking at people as black and white to seeing things in terms of the poor and the "haves".
She definitely should have resigned because it effected her job capacity in a sense that she wasn't fair in doing her job because of race. But the bigger story is how the video was spliced up to make it seems like she still has a racist attitude. Her past is tragic, but Im glad she has learned from her mistake.
The video wasn't spliced. They just stopped it after the "dramatic" part. She goes on to say that she referred the guy to a white lawyer so he could be helped by "his kind". She also said that it helped her to see that the world can be helped by looking at things more from a poor vs. "those that have" than from a black vs. white perspective. There are racial overtones in the speech but I don't think the woman is a racist. But I'm glad she resigned because now she's a socialist. The woman was scheduled to appear on Megyn Kelly's show yesterday but she cancelled at the last minute. O'Reilly invited her to come on his show to tell her side and she refused.
Wouldnt you agree that they shouldnt have just aired that part alone? I mean come on there is a reason why they did that.
