What about CNN? They ran it too. As soon as Fox knew there was more to the tape, they ran it. That's not the story though. The story now is why did the WH rush to judgement once again? Will they never learn to get all the facts before acting? They are in full damage control now. Gibbs has apologized on behalf of the WH and Sherrod may very well get her job back. By the way, when the NAACP jumped in to help Barry throw Shirley under the bus, they were in possession of the full video. They just didn't bother looking at it. LaSalle, you should check out Fox News. It's an excellent way of staying fully informed.
Then CNN blew it too. I agree with you on Obama and his knee jerk reactions. Actually what business is it of the WH's anyway? (i know she worked for government, but i highly doubt the WH should comment on everything said by it's employees) Since i always dog on Bush and bring him up, i will do it again by saying he wouldn't have given a sh!t what this woman said, and probably wouldn't have commented on it all, which would have been the right thing to do.
The media did not "blow" anything. They did not intentionally skew the facts to make anyone look bad. Again, see Dan Rather. That's what the media can do if they want to.
so how did they not blow it? So if you get caught on tape saying "i hate chinese people". But what you actually said was "the other day i was at a chinese restaurant, and this guy ran in and said, I hate chinese people" but the only part that is aired is the i hate chinese people part, and then the next day the news airs the entire clip, even if they weren't given the entire clip to begin with, they didn't do anything wrong? Shouldn't they have tried to get the whole story before they ran with it? I mean it's not like Fox's has any competition or anything, the people who watch fox aren't going anywhere. CNN as well. Isn't it the media's responsibility to investigate and make sure they aren't airing something that isn't in it's entirety. Couldn't it be conceived that news outlets do this type of thing all the time to fire up their base, even if that wasn't what happened here? Maybe i am just a paranoid bastard....
Vilsack is the fall guy. Obama wasn't briefed until after the decision was made. Based on what he had, he agreed. I think Vilsack was trying to do what he thought the WH would want. My boss also spoke to Ms. Sherrod (his counterpart in Georgia) yesterday evening. Basically, people still trying to paint her as racist are missing the entire context. I believe everyone has some degree of bias, but not fully racist, but basically here were her actions. While working for a NON-GOVERNMENT ENTITY (last July marked her entry into federal service), a white farmer was sent her way. This white farmer acted superior and as if he did not want to deal with her. She believed it was because she was black and a woman. She did as much as she needed to do ultimately sending him to a white male attorney for further assistance. She figured, if he didn't want to deal with me, I definitely won't send him to the black attorney we use often in these cases. Eventually, the ball was back in her court and she picked it up and ran with it, ultimately befriending the white farmer and his family. I'm not saying she's pure and unbiased. I think anyone who experienced as much discrimination as she has while also having her own father killed by a white racist, probably has a lot of demons she had to fight in her past to not be racist. But by all accounts, this lady has served rural Georgians admirably. According to my boss, the resignation is not the issue for Ms. Sherrod. It's the way it was handled. She was villainized as if she has not done great things in that state when it's the total opposite. She then became a victim, making EVERYONE (not just the Obama Administration) involved look bad. The WH, Vilsack, Fox News, Breitbart, Roland Martin, and the NAACP share mud facials. As of yesterday evening, she didn't know if she would even accept the job back if offered, but I suspect she will because a lot of people owe her apologies...not for the resignation, but for the mistreatment. Plus, she has a lot of good things going on in Georgia that she doesn't want to leave hanging for too long.
Here is a test, do your best to watch oh lets make it easy, special report with brett, or the fox report with shep, those guys are not too polarizing (imo) and then watch either cnn, pmsnbc, nbc, abc, et al. and see how many things that were on fox are not even mentioned on the others. You'll be surprised.
