I completely agree. I was just responding to the OP. I think LSU has the best wins, but I'd have us at 3.
The better question is why Clemson is still not #1. If the same standard of "Alabama hasn't lost so they should still be #1" was applied to Clemson (or any top ranked team), there is no reason Bama should have eclipsed them. If we beat Alabama, the Gumps will likely drop a single place in the polls due to Bama Bias. If LSU loses we'll drop 3+ spots.
I agree. Could it be that we are just getting older and don't appreciate the heart attacks that go with well-contested games? That we need "slam dunks" that won't cause palpitations as we sip our Geritol-laced Jack Daniels from our rocking chairs in front of our big screens? Geaux Tigers!
What frustrates me with these talking heads rankings is their lack of reasoning in their justification. Jesse Palmer ranked LSU at #3 because of his concerns with our defense. Ok. He then ranked Alabama at #1 with no mention of their defense. Well........ Total Defense - Yards per game LSU is #26 Bama is #30 Total Defense - Yards per play LSU is #17 Bama is #19 And LSU has played 2 top 10 teams, Bama has played 0 If you’re going to use these metrics to explain your rankings, they should at least make sense. Otherwise just say “I think Bama is better because they’re Bama” and I’m fine with it.
This is what I'm saying... Don't go by history or last year and you wind up with us at the top... Followed by the Badgers and buckeyes... edit; (from yahoo article) In beating Florida 42-28 in Tiger Stadium, LSU staked its claim to being ranked No. 1. It won’t happen, because pollsters are incapable of the flexible thinking necessary to jump a team from No. 5 to the top of the polls. But what other undefeated team has two victories as good as the Tigers, who paired this defeat of the Gators with their road win over Texas on Sept. 7? The current No. 1, Alabama, has played an undistinguished schedule. The current No. 2, Clemson, has played an even weaker schedule. The current No. 3, Ohio State, has its best victory to date over Cincinnati. The current No. 4, Georgia, just lost. LSU, meanwhile, has become the most powerful offensive force in America. The Tigers have scored more than 40 points in every game — and the 42 they hung on Florida were the most the Gators have allowed since 2016. This was a Florida team that entered the game giving up just 9.5 points per game, sixth-best in the nation, and that defense was lit up for 511 yards by a balanced LSU attack.
