So after watching the bowl game I have come to this conclusion. We are either young and stupid or our coaches can't coach these players up at all. Please tell me how the hell do you have a player that has his helmet pulled off earlier in the year and then hits some one drawing a pentatly, and then we have another player do it later in the year!!! You have got to tell me someone had to have pulled the team together and said something to the effect of "don't f-ing do that!" and we still do the bone head thing. How many bone head stupid penalties were called last night alone on us? The only conclusion I can come to is we have a whole lot of young stupid eager players or our coaches are failing on coaching our players at the most basic level. Something has to give.
That is a fair criticism and has been a feature of recent Tiger teams. I think most is on coaching; from selecting recruits who have the character, intelligence and discipline to avoid such. It is also on coaching the little things. A portion is on the players who don't have the character, intelligence and discipline to avoid such.
If it's not emphasized in practice, it's bound to show up in-game. Line up off-sides, run laps. Lose a helmet, stop play or run steps. Very simple. More condition response than intelligence.
I've never seen Les lay into a player. Sometimes I think he needs to. No need 2 embarrass a kid. Just instill some discipline.
I've seen Saban yell at a player and a few minutes later pat him on the back after a good play. Got to use the stick as well as the carrot
We really do seem to draw a lot of penalties, and many are pretty big breaches of FUNDAMENTALS. The buck has to stop somewhere!
