We had a grand total of 3 QB hits tonight on defense. Man, how times have changed. We used to have that in half a quarter.

One was Kwon on a blitz and one was Barrow. The other was Freak I believe.

    Man this D-line is horrible.

Did you actually watch them? I keyed on both and Welter was blocked easily and never filled the holes. His tackles were down field. Barrow is like a missile...if pointed directly he is fine but if he has to make a decision he is lost and again rarely filled his hole.
To lead a team in tackles is less than half the story. Where they made them is as important and here Barrow and Welter failed badly.

Did you listen to what I've been saying? I'm not defending Welter and Barrow. I'm saying WHO is playing better? Benching the starters does no good at all if there is no one else that is ready to start. Youngsters are being developed but they have to take those jobs away from the starters with outstanding talent and smart decision making. Not just have the jobs handed to them because we are frustrated at the drop-off from last season. All of the linebackers are making mistakes.

Part of the problem is the defensive line. They are not tying up multiple offensive linemen and preventing blockers from reaching the linebackers like their predecessors did.

Barrow is not deserving of the #18 jersey.

That is fair I liked what little I saw of Lamar Louis and Beckwith. Are they ready? I don't know but I don't think replacing Welter can hurt no matter what. He seems like a little boy on skates out there.

Can they make the reads yet? Les and Chief apparently don't think so. We don't seem to have a young Minter and even he was a junior when he developed into an All-american backer. Some things take time.

Barrow plays the option about as bad as anyone I've ever seen.

If I'm Chavis, I'm going to blitz more. Most other D's in the country have already made that call because most of them aren't that great either. He's going to have to work around the inexperience though, that's the Achilles heel here.
I like the guys we have on D. I think the more they play, the better they will get.

The D sucks either way. Why not start Beckwith and some of the other young LBs? Its not like things can get much worse. Deal with the growing pains and hopefully it clicks after some real game experience. Barrow should be ashamed to be wearing the prestigious #18.

Oh yes it can get a lot worse, like giving up 50 points instead of 26. Like having all 11 guys out of position instead of 2, 3 or 4. Especially with these hurry up offenses.

If we put all of these youngsters in together we might be looking at an aTm type defense ranked last in the SEC.
