You know, reflecting on RPs career makes me also reflect on CLMs handling of QBs. Watching that SECCG, and a few other games RP played in, made you salivate for how good that guy could have been. Talent off the charts. However, he did not have the character or leadership qualities. Thinking about talent + intelligence + leadership skills, the summaries below come to mind for me: RP, SRivers, CGarrett, RShep, RBolden, HRettig - all these guys are recent QBs who held promise when recruited or entering LSU, but none panned out under CLM, to much scrutiny. But, none panned out post-LSU either, whether at another college or pros. So, was it CLMs "handling" or "development", or were they just not complete enough? MFlynn, ZMett both did well at LSU under CLM, and have continued success post-LSU. Arguably, Mett should have played a season sooner. Coincidence, or theme? Despite all of our frustrations, it does seem that CLM and staff have consistently chosen the right starting QBs amongst their roster choices. Now, JLee and JJ were conundrums. With the loss of ZachLee, they didn't have as much talent to choose from, and which one the staff chose was certainly up for debate. Frustrating QB years there, for sure, but we still managed that undefeated season that culminated with that crushing defeat with these 2 QBs on the roster. So now it's down to AJ or BHarris? It seems Harris is the better talent to most of us, and has seemingly matured, but it also seems clear from above that the coaches do know what they are doing at making the best choice. The debates will still go on, I know, but when I reflect back, it makes me want to be more trusting in the coaches decisions, not less. I sure hope BHarris has turned that corner and becomes the complete QB that he is hopefully capable of, and that LSU needs. If so, this could be another magical season.
And that's where I am. We could sit here and say Miles hasn't played the right guy but in every situation, it turns out like you pointed out he has played the right guy because those other guys flopped elsewhere. I guess the jury may still be out on Rettig, where is he anyway? But Rivers, Shep, Garrett, all qb flops.
He also lost Gunner Kiel. Les has had bad luck with highly rated quarterbacks with no chest. It left us thin and with quarterbacks that were recruited to be backups.
Who'd of thought it. You mean there's a chance the some of the highest paid men in the profession that have infinitely more data tha Joe the fan could be making the right decisions on who should play? Hard to believe.
