Payroll has everything to do with it. Without the payroll that they have, it's safe to say they wouldn't have gotten number 27. If you argue otherwise, you're only foolin yourself. I've been called much worse.
if it was payroll, they would have won every title since vietnam. or at least made the playoffs last year. baseball is the only sport without some sort of salary cap. But it is also the sport that has crowned the most different champions in the last 30 years. no, the thought hasn't even crossed my mind.
When it comes to the Yanks, it is about payroll. They paid their way to the world series. And yes I agree, they should have won more world series than they have.
It's impossible to argue against your logic. If they win, they bought it so the win means nothing. If they didn't win, they should have.:insane: I like Nootch and LaSalle much better. They just come out and say they hate the Yankees.
look, I despise the yanks as much as anyone else on this board, but you're not gonna change my mind about the payroll thing. take a look at the pro sports landscape: in the last 10 years, MLB has crowned just as many different champs as the NBA has in my entire lifetime (I'm 31 for the record). but nobody ever bitches about the inequality of the NBA. the 49ers have the same amount of titles in my life as the Yankees do, but nobody ever cries about inequality in the NFL. payroll DOES NOT EQUAL championships
the ladies on this forum might get jealous have no problems admitting it. but it has nothing to do with envy or their payroll. they're simply my team's biggest rival. they're the roadblock to what I want. no different than what Auburn has been to LSU in the last 10 years or so.
The logic is quite simple. I agree that payroll, in general, does not always equal championships. But, you tell me what other team can afford the lineup of stars the Yankees currently have? You take away any given star from that lineup and there is a good chance the Phillies win the World Series. In this particular circumstance, I still stand by what I said.
you take away a star from any given championship team, and there's is a good chance they don't win that championship. I stand by what I said too. geaux look at their roster. Pettite, Posada, Rivera, Jeter, Cano, Cabrera, Chamberlain all came up through the Yankees farm system. The Yankees didn't buy any of those guys. Damon is having a resurgence thanks in large part to the wind tunnel effect in the new Yankee Stadium. Matsui is so beat up, he don't even play in games where the DH isn't allowed, and has probably played his last game in the States. That leaves A-Rod, Tex, and CC (burnett doesn't count, because there wasn't exactly a long line for his services). A-Rod was acquired via trade, so he wasn't bought either. so on their entire contributing roster, they "bought" 2 guys. Teixiera who hit a blistering .136 in the WS. and CC who went 0-1 with a slightly above avg 3.29 ERA. so, geaux ahead and convince yourself that this title was "bought"
