My hotel will be on Canal Street in NO. When I arrive on Friday around lunch time I want to get a great shrimp po'boy. Anyone know any places close to canal or bourbon?

Also some game thoughts. This game has been on my figurative calender for years. Finally I get to experience a famous Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. Win or lose, this game will be fun.

A little background on our team...

QB- Geno Smith, a sophomore, has shown some unbelievable touch on the ball and looks to be the best pure QB at WVU since Marc Bulger. Don't believe what you hear when they say Geno is a running QB. He's a mature pocket passer who can escape if need be. We'll see how the Tiger Stadium crowd gets to him.
RB-Noel Devine, nuff said. He really is all that's advertised. He doesn't go down easy and is probably pound for pound one of the strongest player in the country (weighs 170, benches 450). We have a big bruising RB in Ryan Clarke who comes in to change pace.
WR-We are extremely deep at WR. Tavon Austin is one of the most talented players to ever come through WVU and he is just a sophomore. Jock Sanders will be WVU's all time leading WR by the end of the year and is a Noel Devine clone. Stedman Bailey, Geno's teammate, can pretty much catch anything that comes his way. I don't expect for us to throw toward patrick peterson's way very often.
OL-This is the one position I think can single handedly change Saturday's game. WVU's Oline has been very below average this year and there's a great chance Geno could be running for his life all night.
DL-Probably the deepest WVU has been on the line since the 90s. We have strong senior tackles in Scooter Berry and Chris Neild and promising ends in Bruce Irvin and Julian Millers. Look for WVU to send heat and pressure Jefferson to make bad throws.
LB-Our leading tackler from the last couple years has missed the first 3 games and may miss saturday. His backup has filled in nicely so far, but our LB core is a little bit of a weak spot on an overall stout defense
DBs-Brandon Hogan may not play saturday because of a DUI charge. We really need him out there because his counterpart and replacement are infamous for being burnt on long pass plays. Jefferson may have a career day if LSU goes to the deep ball. Robert Sands is a 6'5 225 lb future first round safety who lays the wood. He has been battling a shoulder injury this season. It doesn't look too serious but you never know. The louisiana heat could get to him.
Special Teams-WVU better not kick to Peterson if they want to win. Last year our kickoff coverage was a huge concern but so far it has improved. Tyler Bitincurt is a great sophomore kicker who is reliable and able to kick under pressure.

Overall I think LSU's defense will force a few fumbles as WVU has been know for its fumblitis. If we can blitz and force Jefferson to have a few turnovers of its own, we may have ourselves a game.

score prediction. LSU 24 WVU 13. Crowd gets to our young squad causing a few turnovers that cost us. LSU runs the ball in the 4th getting crucial first downs to lock it up. Stewart can't coach a game on the road to save his life so the score could be worse.

So Good luck, here's to no injuries and a fun game! Just remember, if there is one team in the entire country you don't want to underestimate, it's WVU. We put the entire state on our back and play for its pride. WVU is known for playing with a chip on its shoulder against bigger programs.

    Peace

I can't pm you so call me at the Abita Springs Cafe (985) 867 9950

My restaurant is across the lake and probably too far away from Canal street for any of you guys to make it to Abita Springs, but I can guide you over the phone as to where to go.

Poboys...anywhere really. Mothers is legendary, but there are plenty of othe options. I like Johnny's in the French Quarter (Decatur and Toulouse (I think)

    Muffellattas...Central grocery on Decatur.

Authentic Creole...Olivier's across from the house of blues.

Cheap drinks and good sandwiches...Cafe Maspero.

    Great first post.
Check back for po boys tomorrow. Many choices.
You can do bourbon street any time. Get to BR early Saturday. You won't regret it. Remember to pace yourself. People have been known to "overdue it" too early and miss Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night.

Cool thank you. I have all my essential Cajun cuisine lined up.

Dinner at Commander's Palace on Friday night. Hopefully some gracious LSU fans will provide some gumbo lol. I love gumbo so I'm excited to get some down there. I have had good gumbo but nothing like I can get in the Bayou. All that's left is a good po'boy to tie me over after the flight.

Any other quick food stops on gameday in BR just in case?
    Any "must see's" on campus?

Game Day you have to get to "The Hill" to watch the band. Ask anyone and they can direct you. I'm usually in front and right of the Golden Girls. :hihi:

I'm a gumbo man. While you are in town you should try to sample some of the many different types of gumbo. The gumbo they make in the city is different than the gumbo made by bayou cajuns, which is different than the gumbo made by prairie cajuns. Some gumbos are thickened with file, some are roux based, and some are thickened with okra. In the city is common to put tomatoes in gumbo with a light roux. Cajuns don't do that, and cook a dark roux.

I doubt anyone has it on the menu right now, but you may want to ask about a gumbo z'herbes, which is a gumbo of 7 or more slow cooked greens. That is my favorite, but it is mostly served during Lent.

Mother's has never been all that great, in my opinion, especially their shrimp (which I don't think have much flavor.) I've heard that debris poboy is the big attraction there, but he wants shrimp.

As for food near campus, The Chimes is right outside the north gates of LSU on Highland Road. I do like their shrimp poboy a lot.

+100 to Steve's recommendation of Cafe Maspero. Great sandwich shop, right across from Jackson Brewery (a former brewery turned shopping mall, not an actual brewhouse, sorry) on Decatur.

Welcome to the board, csd, and enjoy your Death Valley experience. An out-of-conference powerhouse's first visit is always a big event for we Tiger fans as well.
