Re: Rueben Randle ? If you think Mackey is so dumb how is he going to coach someone. Its funny you continue to talk about Mackey but at least Mackey is in college unlike some people and former players.Has Mackey or his Mom maybe his family done you something?I dont think if RR would go to Ole Miss it would be hanging his hat on Mackey it would be different reasons and Mackey would just be a plus. I just was saying Ole Miss would be a better place than Bama and have heard from people that Ole Miss would have more say in this recruitment than in JM's.
Re: Rueben Randle Man please. First of all, it doesn't take an academic wizard to be a football coach and teach a friggin world history class. Spoke to any high school football coaches lately? I'm not talking about head guys. If you know the game of football, which he does, then you can teach the game of football. Hell Bradshaw himself is FAR from the sharpest tack in the box. Mackey is a football player, plain and simple. If his life did not include football, HE WOULD NOT BE ANYWHERE NEAR A COLLEGE UNLESS HE WAS CLEANING IT. If he didn't play football, his ass would not have even graduated. I'm speaking the truth about what I and everyone else around town, including teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, etc. knows about this kid. BUT, I, like everyone else, WANT him to do well. God knows we don't need anymore athletically gifted black kids sitting around Bastrop doing nothing. But after three years of getting used at BHS, it's clear that he NEEDS football in his life if he's going to amount to anything. Now let's be clear. He is the primary reason Bastrop is on the map nationally in football. They didn't need any of those other guys that came up from Port Sulphur. He was The One. RR owes a lot of the attention he's getting to Mackey's abilities at QB. But on the flipside of that, a young man's future was sacraficed for the sake of winning championships. A normal kid who did what he did in high school would've been either placed in special ed or kicked out and placed at an alternative program. But because he has a golden arm and great ability, he was allowed to sit and do nothing. I'm not one of the people who believe sacraficing a kid (without him even realizing it), was worth those trophies. Get out of your feelings.

Re: Rueben Randle I didnt say Mackey is an academic wizard but he's in school you are the one that said he would lick windows and a person like that wouldn't be a good coach and yes at some high schools coaches arent genius we all know that. You just always have to say something negative regarding him at least he's in school doing something positive staying out of trouble which many aren't especially around the bastrop area. Thats the problem for the few that do go out and do what's right and try to better themselves with the possibility of taking care of their family if they are blessed to make it to the next level lets be proud of that and leave it at that not everytime we mention their name degrade them.Mackey is doing great out there and everyone is behind him and proud of him and say nothing but great things about him..... now ask them about DLo
Re: Rueben Randle The problem is that I-20 connects Monroe to Tuscaloser, so it is only like a 5 hour drive from Bastrop to Bama. How long does it take to get from Bastrop to Baton Rouge? About 4.5 hours? And a lot of that is driving on two-lane highways, so it's possible you get stuck behind some slowpoke.
Re: Rueben Randle Actually it's a little over 3 hours now and it's mostly 4-lane. I think about the only two lane highway left is around the Wisner/Gilbert/Sicily Island stretch and that might even be 4-laned now. It's smooth riding once you get passed Sicily Island. They could also go through Alexandria and be on almost all wide open four lane...just be careful in Georgetown! Takes a little over 3 hours that way too.
