Re: Rueben Randle I don't think Debose helps or hurts with RR. It would be great to get both, but he's not too concerned with who else a team gets. They're different type receivers anyway. Debose will most likely play majority slot where he would be moved around to create mismatches. He may even line up in the backfield. RR will probably be split out wide the majority of the time.
Re: Rueben Randle I'm not one that believe race SHOULD play much a part of anything but unfortunately it does. I'm not qualified to judge McCarthy's qualifications as a receiver coach but from a recruiting standpoint we might be better served having a black WR coach considering most WR prospects in Louisiana are black. Of course most players on the team are black so then we get into a slippery slope of racial issues in hiring. Miles seems to have a good racial makeup of his coaches but I couldn't tell you the color of most of our coaches and staff if my life depended on it other than Miles and our OC and DC.
Re: Rueben Randle Right. Just a difference in cultures. He just thought dude was kind of weird. I've been up there. I think the people up there are pretty weird too, but they probably thought the same about me.:hihi: I mean we're talking about a culture of activists who left thousands of people snowed in for days at the airport because they didn't want to pour salt on the snow and ice for fear it would drain into the rivers and kill the salmon. Down here we'd think they were nuts. Up there it was totally normal and acceptable. They do love their weed up there though...LOL!
Re: Rueben Randle I agree with you, it is a slippery slope and it shouldnt matter. But you maybe on to something with specific coaching positions and who they are recruiting.
Re: Rueben Randle This would have been an excellent post for the Auburn HC Hiring/Turner Gill thread. Coaching staffs will find ways to hire black assistant coaches for much the same reason as you are alluding to in some cases, but ADs across the nation can't see themselves hiring one of those same assistants as head coaches. There is your conundrum.
Re: Rueben Randle This is so true. And it really is across the nation but if you listen to ESPN they'll have you believe it's mainly the South. I know the South is probably more prevalent with this, but it's not alone. Turner Gill is the most recent case, but one of the worst might be Charlie Strong at Florida. He's been their since Spurrier, put countless players in the NFL, but noone has given him a shot at being the head guy. He allegedly lost out on one opportunity because he's married to a white woman. It's really sad because Florida, as great as they have been on offense, does not produce great offensive talent to the NFL, but on defense, they shoot them out with regularity. Tebow will struggle as an NFL QB. Harvin will be a KR/PR. They will put some O-linemen in the league. But they have at least 6 or 7 on that defense who will be first rounders over the next couple of years. Every starter on that defense is projected to get drafted over the next few years. Says a lot about who's coaching these guys.

Re: Rueben Randle Funny, I had always thought he was black ... until a few minutes ago and I started catching up on this thread.
