Re: Rueben Randle This is why I cant understand the whole "Randle doesn't want to play second fiddle to Julio Jones" argument.... We have 1 very good reciever in Jones...and a few that are trying to emerge, but haven't yet.
Re: Rueben Randle Because Jones is from Alabama, is a year older & was vital to the turnaround of your program - he will always be a fan favorite over RR. That is the argument.
Re: Rueben Randle The biggest difference is we got Lafell for MAYBE one more year (not known if he will bolt for the NFL) and you guys have Julio at least 2 more years. No one else has emerged for LSU. Randle should be confident enough that he would see the field as a true freshman and crack the top 3. At Bama, I guess he could conceivably be the #2 guy, although I assume someone else would emerge as a #2 guy ahead of Randle just the same. The other big point is if LSU gets Benton and Debose, he is coming in with 2 other stud WRs, whereas Bama would only have Kelly.
Re: Rueben Randle Homegrown or not, if Randle performed and got better numbers than Julio, he would become fan favorite... It's all about the numbers you put up, not where you're from. The argument (if in fact Randle thought of this) would only look as if he was scared of competition. I dunno, that's JMO.
Re: Rueben Randle Well, it would be tough for any WR to outpace JJ at Bama right now. And the fact that JJ is a year older & more familiar with the system means he would likely get more touches than RR as well.
Re: Rueben Randle If you looked at the chat with RR on Rivals earlier, if it showed he was a lean to anyone, it was definitely LSU IMO. But you'd have to look real hard... Randle mentioned he'd liked to go to a place where another receiver would take the pressure off of him. He mentioned each "star" WR for every team but interestingly enough, he mentioned BL and TT for LSU. He talked about being a star for the home school too, said it would be a great opportunity to play in front of his family/friends and represent the home state. Weighed in the positives for every school he was favoring and the reasons he gave for the other schools were actually in LSU's favor also, like he mentioned Miami puts a lot of receivers in the first round. Obviously didn't want to say too much about one school I guess. Talked about seeing himself playing by RS, saying he could allow him to get open more with his athleticism. But what else was he going to say, you know?
Re: Rueben Randle My big mutha fuggin gump boss says RR would be a huge surprise to Alabama at this point. Not what he was saying a few weeks ago. The gumps are out of it as far as Im concerned. RR is probably like Julio Jones was last year. Dont talk much, carry a big stick and stay with the home state school. Come on down mr RR!
Re: Rueben Randle Just a few tidbits: RR told a reporter at practice today how great it would be to play along side Shep and has been hanging with Davenport and Faulk a majority of the trip so far.
Re: Rueben Randle Davenport is rooming with Faulk, RR is rooming with Mingo, Davenport said he was already talking to RR three times a week trying to get RR to come to LSU, and he said that since he would be rooming with Faulk at the Army AA game, he'd get Faulk to help him convince guys like RR to come to LSU (Faulk grew up a huge LSU fan). As for Shep, he's not there... he's at the Under Armor AA game in Disneyland, trying to recruit the guys there.
