Re: Rueben Randle You do keep saying this. This is the third time I've seen you talk about Randle himself being directly related to the fence we have built around Louisiana. I don't get it. Regarding the fence around Louisiana, we lose one big-time recruit out of all the major Louisiana recruits in recent years. So what? It happened with McKnight. Even if we lose him to Bama... so what? Not seeing how that is a blow to how well we recruit in state. Granted, losing Randle is a blow just because he is so great... but just regarding our "fence" I think losing one guy is irrelevant, even if he is the greatest player in history.
Re: Rueben Randle I was going to say the same thing, based on how Rivals listed him as a "pro-style" QB and based on how he had a small proportion of rushing yards during his high school senior and junior years according to his stats from Rivals. But ESPN says that: Jackson is the true definition of a dual-threat because being outside of the pocket is where he is at his very best. ... We are not sure he won't be recruited more as an athlete than QB. They also say that he only has "adequate arm strength," that his "Arm strength is not outstanding," that "He lacks power as a downfield passer and his arm is more suited for the short-to-intermediate passing game," and that he "Is a little bit of a project as a passer." They also say he is "very mechanical in the passing game. He's almost too regimented," and "rigid." They don't make him sound that good at QB, again, they said: "We are not sure he won't be recruited more as an athlete than QB." http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recr...ncf/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=49669
Re: Rueben Randle That's pretty interesting. - He was selected as the top QB at Friday Night Lights. - Awarded best week of practice over T. Pryor at Army All-American Bowl. "Jackson was superb in 7-on-7 drills and he connected with DeAndre Brown for a 40-yard touchdown pass. The ball was perfectly placed and the Alabama commit had one of those days where he looked exceptionally comfortable in the pocket." - Ranked third most accurate QB by Rivals.com last year. Rivals and Scout had multiple scouts at his games, Friday Night Lights, Elite 11, and AA Game. Im not even sure ESPN has multiple scouts. They are coming along, but arent very reliable. This doesnt make him a future All-American at all, but to say they dont know if he is a QB shows they did not do much scouting, if any at all. As Mastermind mentioned he certainly can run, but it is more of a controlled run when the pocket collapses or he is forced to move. He isn't a 4.4 guy, probably 4.6ish, but has long strides. Actually I remember all the updates last year where he was upset with people calling him a scrambler. Still, this doesn't really matter when it comes to RR - I would guess. I still think all three schools are similar in the way they approach the game and ultimately I believe where he is more comfortable will be a big deciding factor. As for the whole fence thing I agree with you John. Top prospects are tougher to keep in state. But to judge how the fence is holding up you look at the middle of the pack to top recruits and Coach Miles and co. are getting almost every guy they want. And that should continue for as very, very long time.
Re: Rueben Randle Shannon went from 5-7 his first season to 7-5 this year. Looks like he is on the up-and-up. If not, Miami would be stupid for not trying to get Tuberville, who was a Miami coach from 1986-1993 (during which time they won 3 National Championships). As for WRs at the U that got drafted since 1988: 2006 -- 2nd Round WR (Sinorice Moss) -- Super Bowl Champion 2005 -- 2nd Round WR (Roscoe Parrish) 2003 -- 1st Round WR (Andre Johnson) -- two-time Pro Bowl 2002 -- 7th Round WR (Daryl Jones) 2001 -- 1st Round WR (Santana Moss) -- two-time Pro Bowl 2001 -- 1st Round WR (Reggie Wayne) -- two-time Pro Bowl 2001 -- 7th Round WR (Andre King) 1998 -- 3rd Round WR (Jammi German) 1997 -- 1st Round WR (Yatil Green) 1997 -- 6th Round WR (Tony Gaiter) 1995 -- 3rd Round WR (Chris Jones) 1993 -- 2nd Round WR (Kevin Williams) 1993 -- 3rd Round WR (Lamar Thomas) 1993 -- 4th Round WR (Horace Copeland) 1991 -- 1st Round WR (Randal Hill) 1991 -- 2nd Round WR (Wesley Carroll) 1991 -- 12th Round WR (Alex Johnson) 1990 -- 9th Round WR (Dale Hawkins) 1988 -- 1st Round WR (Michael Irvin) -- 5-time Pro Bowl 1988 -- 2nd Round WR (Brian Blades) -- 1-time Pro Bowl 1988 -- 2nd Round WR (Brett Perriman)
Re: Rueben Randle This is Dandy Don's December 9th update: I made a few phone calls Monday and ... LSU is still very much in the thick of things with Rueben Randle, but by no means is it a done deal.
Re: Rueben Randle Its more important here not because its Bama and Satan is what Im getting at. Plus right now LSU does need to keep the top guys instate with the current state of the program. Yes, LSU is far from losing the fence around La but for this season we need a big win. Even if its just a moral one in recruiting.
Re: Rueben Randle Yes. It wouldnt make sense to send out a monthly newsletter about myself to 2500 people with no new news.
Re: Rueben Randle Rueben Randle is the new #1 player in the country. Props to him. I hope we land him.
