Just for fun. And to give JohnLSU the morning off .

Here's the reality of WR recruiting rankings based on last year's performance.

    2005

#1 Patrick Turner Southern Cal 40 catches for 586 yards
#2 Fred Rouse Florida State Transfered to Texas Southern? No stats

    2006

#1 Percy Harvin Florida 61 catches for 538 yards
#2 Vidal Hazelton Southern Cal 6 cathces for 38 yards

    2007

#1 Ronald Johnson Southern Cal 25 catches 431 yards
#2 Terrance Tolliver LSU 20 catches 240 yards

    2008

#1 Julio Jones Alabama 46 catches 723 yards
#2 AJ Green Georgia 55 catches 951 yards

None of these numbers are awesome. Only AJ Green leads his conference. And he's not in the Top 30 nationally.

    For reference...

Brandon Lafell LSU 61 catches for 903 yards
Demetrius Byrd LSU 34 catches for 503 yards

I understand the desire to fence off LA. But arguably the best all-around receiver in the country (Crabtree) was the 16th best athlete in the 2006 class - overall rated below Jared Mitchell.

Which supports SF and his call for relaxation.

Even though I don't want Bama to do well I think Julio is a big time receiver. Bama is a power running team and doesn't throw a tremendous amount. For a freshman Julio is very good and has improved as the season progressed. What impresses me the most is his strength and his ability to break tackles. Barring injury he will be in the NFL. I think you made a point by showing that the top recruits didn't always produce in previous years, but 2008 is different. It is also hard to project which WR's will be productive in the NFL as well.

:lol:LOL, not likely! I think it boils down to depth charts and QB's in this circumstance. Honestly its not a position of need for LSU. We'll be fine.

A true freshman going over the 1000 yard mark (probably after their bowl game) isn't impressive?

If we get Randle or Benton to do that next season, LSU will average 50 ppg.

We're not recruiting Louis Alleman. Where'd you hear that?

That was actually tboy's attempt to quote my post.

My point wasn't that Jones or Green aren't impressive. My point was that being the #1 or #2 WR on the Rivals or Scout sites does not necessarily equate to future production. Jones and Green are actually doing much, much better than the folks in my post from 2005 and 2006.

    Understood.

    Harvin is a beast.

Toliver will be a beast next season.

The Cali players are always overrated in the recruiting rankings.

Bottom line, if you're not from Cali, more than likely you're legit.

Randle is can't miss, btw. Just like Harvin.

No such thing. He'll probably live up to his billing. But can't miss seems like hyperbole.
