Re: Rueben Randle I definately didnt think we would be better...i thought jefferson should mhave been prepared from day one..i watched some film on him and i was never impressed he only looked at the first option and i didnt like that then...but guys on here including one very respected poster cparso:insane: kept saying that he was an elite 8 quarterback boy were they wrong and im here to tell you, this kid is not gonna get the job done...russell shepard please get here soon:rofl:..hey parso just messing with you....
Re: Rueben Randle I had this same conversation with someone in the Strop about Jefferson. I saw him twice last year, and he was a first option only guy in both games. His second option was to run instead of making his progressions and dumping off instead of running like his coach wanted him to do. He showed a very good arm, and he is an elite athlete. If he's not a QB, he's the type of kid you have to find a way to utilize. Problem is, LSU won't likely need him at WR whether RR commits or not. He was Elite 8 last year in a noticeably down year for QB recruits. I wonder where he would rank in 2005 (Stafford, Snead, Sanchez) or 2006 (Clausen, Mustain, Tyrod Taylor). Last year, after Dayne Crist and Terrell Pryor, there wasn't much out there. Had Randall Mackey not been a complete scholastic liability(and 2 inches taller) he would've been top 3 recruit (according to Dallas Jackson at Rivals). There was a kid from Virginia Beach but he looked horrible at the all-star game week (don't remember if it was Army or Under Armour). This year is supposedly an up year for QB recruits.
Re: Rueben Randle nupe i definately agree with you. I looked at jefferson's film and he did go through his progressions, acually i wasn't blown away with his arm strength either. although considering what was out there jj was a good pick up. now onto randkle mackey i thought he was the best talent in the state and it was'nt even close..as far as him being a little taller i agree to a certain extent i think mackey would be fine since we run so many plays from the gun and he wouldnt have to have been behind center much. mackey's athleticism would make up for his height question and im tellling you his arm strength is the real deal.....i think he was rated three star that was an absolute joke did u see the louisiana vs texas all star game he was lights out
Re: Rueben Randle A first-year signal-caller from Bastrop (La.) High School, Mackey leads the National Junior College Athletic Association in passing yards (281.8) and total offense yards (330.4) per game. The Port Sulphur, La., native threw for 2,818 yards and 24 touchdowns on 193-of-320 (60%) passing for the year, along with rushing for 486 yards and four scores on 80 carries in 10 contests. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound all-America candidate threw for 300 or more yards three times in 2008, including a 441-yard outing on 36-of-58 passing during EMCC’s 27-23 comeback road victory over defending co-national champion and then-No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast on Sept. 18. Mackey threw for a touchdown in all 10 games this season, including six outings with at least three scoring tosses. IF YOU DONT THINK THIS KID WAS'NT THE REAL DEAL WE SHOULD HAVE SIGNED HIM. I GUESS TOO MUCH OF A CHANCE ESPECIALLY WITH BENTON HAVING ALL HIS ACADEMIC PROBLEMS...BUT DAMN FIND A GOOD TUTOR FOR THE KID!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cuss:
Re: Rueben Randle Mackey is lights out as a QB. He doesn't have a weakness on the football field besides his height. The problem is, this kid was like inorganic matter. I wasn't a chemistry major, but I know inorganic means no life. There was nothing smart about him in the classroom. There's a difference between D-Lo's issues and Mackey's. D-Lo is the kid that just needs a tutor, and someone to stay on his butt to make sure he does his work. Mackey on the other hand, needed to be in special ed taking advanced coloring. It was like he was allowed to fall so far behind in Port Sulphur, there wasn't much Bastrop (who's not known for academia as it is) could do with him but pray he made enough D's along with his A in P.E. to stay eligible. You would leave a conversation with this kid thinking he needed to be told not to lick windows. He has Dexter Manley written all over him. But he is a great QB. He should marry Lisa Leslie or Candice Parker, have a son with her, and hope the kid gets his mom's height and brains with his ability at QB. LSU should pass on this kid like they did from the start. I really questioned the pass for a long time, but I understand why. He's going to have another great 2nd year at JUCO, then some program will take a chance on him, and he'll be great year one, then ineligible year two.
Re: Rueben Randle What? I was under the assumption he made this quote about Bama. Are you sure...? That isn't good news for us if true...
Re: Rueben Randle My point was that Bama won't be in any favorable position regarding QB going into next season over LSU. LSU will have a QB that has gone through the SEC wars. Bama has an unknown commodity at this point.
Re: Rueben Randle Probably doesnt matter. He'll be playing college ball for more than one year and each school has young talent. The only QB that has really played hasnt done anything to impress recruits yet so you can probably toss out the experience factor. Each school has good coaches, young talent, nice facilities -- pretty similar. I guess we'll see where he feels comfortable and move on.
Re: Rueben Randle Well, we will get an early indication on our QB situation next season as we open up the season in Atlanta again... ......This time against Virginia Tech.
