Nobody quite knows what's going to happen with Peterson yet. I imagine it depends on what happens when the coaches talk to him. They will say that it's not okay for him to go on visits, will he accept that? Or will he decommit? Perhaps accepting a commitment from Molton had to do with the coaches' expectation that Peterson won't stay firm in his commitment... With the way WR recruiting is going right now, I wouldn't be suprised if we really backed off DeAndre. In fact, we may have already (I say that b/c of how interested in Ole Miss he sounds in his last article). It certainly isn't that Brown isn't talented, but more of a risk vs reward when we can get other very good WRs that can qualify.
http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/8724687.html Well Potted Plant, I guess that answers your question.
That's saying something! But let's just see what Coach Morton does with SC's WR corp this season. Ausberry, Hazelton, Patterson, Turner, and JM. Patterson was the Cali State speed champ 2x and JM has wheels. As for QB, it's going to take something special to surpass Palmer, Leinart, Booty, Sanchez, Corp, Mustain, and next year's QB commit. :yelwink2: But there are still some other school who may lay claim.....not that they all panned out in the pros. BYU-McMahon, Young, Bosco, Sarkisian Miami-Kosar, Testaverde, Torretta, Erickson Michigan-Harbaugh, Leach, Grbac, Griese, Brady, Henne ND-Theisman, Montana, Beurlein, Mirer, Huarte, Hornung Stanford-Plunkett, Elway, Stenstrom, Brodie Enough! Back to recruiting. Can't wait to see what develops for LSU with the WR's over the next several years.
Peterson is an all-around athlete. We may not count him against the 4 WRs we want to sign, if in fact we still consider him a commit. Taylor could play DB, but he isn't expected to qualify so he may not count against our number of WRs either. That means Molton would be our only true WR recruit right now that definitely counts against the 4 we want to sign this year. It'll be interesting to watch...
I think I'm just going to give up trying to understand what we're doing with WR recruiting. If that statement is correct about us looking for 4 WRs, and if you count J. Taylor and D. Peterson among them, we're currently sitting at three with Chris Tolliver, DeAndre Brown, Surrency, Julio Jones, etc. still on the board. I don't care what they told Molton. If we have x number of WR recruits and Julio Jones calls saying he wants to commit to us, we're taking that commitment come hell or high water. I guess, much like last year, we're going to sign a number of WRs and also sign a number of people who COULD be wide receivers as well.
That definitely fits into Les Miles' philosophy of verstatility in recruiting with TEs and OL. CParso even has a thread on it: http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=55315
The staff wants 4 WR's to actually make it to campus with this class, that means signing 5 or 6 guys. Commits Darron Thomas, Petterson, and J. Taylor are all "athletes" that could play WR, but it appears to be their natural position. If we count them all as WRs, that would make 3 WR commits. Benton didn't qualify & is going to Hargrave. He very well could be an early enrolee and sign with with this class. He'd still have all 4 years of eligibility, I don't see us passing on him. With Benton, that would give us 4 commits with 1 not expected to qualify. Then we could add maybe DeAndre Brown as another commit that doesn't qualify, and still have room for one more WR commit that we expect to qualify. I guess that would mean Tolliver, who's also questionable...
Julio Jones said this morning that he definitely wants to visit LSU. While it may be a long shot to land him, we can only impress him when he gets on campus. :thumb:
I'm cautiously optimistic too but we still have a shot- longshot or not- and I will be SO excited if we should land him. Imagine our future with Chris Tolliver & Julio Jones lining up and Jarrett Lee taking the snap.
